Photos of urban trees in Amsterdam - in the city streets, parks and along the canals - urban Nature in free images

Trees in the streets or along the canals, in the small urban parks of Amsterdam city! Trees are such an important part of Urban Nature in the City! For children but also for adults: - green leaves between the brick-stone or concrete houses and facades - shadows moving over the pavement… And the sound of wind whistling through the tree-branches! A pity that you can’t hear this in the photos!

City-trees have a completely different life than trees in the forests or in the country. City-trees have to work hard to survive in the streets between the houses. To find the food and good water they need, to catch their necessary light… On the other hand many of them have much space - so much light to grow. I think city-trees are real survivors and a very special part of world’s Nature. I admire them!

I enjoy it very much, all kinds of Nature in my city. And for sure the many trees in ‘my’ Amsterdam. I cannot imagine my life in the city without them. They show themselves so very clearly and they tell me every day the visible story of their life, in pictures. And the connections they make with the streets, other plants, birds, the buildings, dogs and people…

I like to start here a series of photos of the city-trees in Amsterdam and dedicate them to ‘Children & Nature’ because most children live in the city. With each photo I mention the month of the year and the time of the day! So everybody can perhaps recognize and understand the seasons and day-time in their colors and the light between tree branches.
I am not a biologist; I am just somebody living in Amsterdam who loves the trees in my town. I hope I can underline this with my photos.

All pictures are free to download and to use as you like. Trees are for everybody, I believe!
