An interactive activity in which students process information about different drugs and medical conditions in order to determine which drug should be used to treat each condition.

By the end of the activity students should appreciate that antibiotics can only treat bacterial infections. They should also have a better understanding of why viruses are difficult to treat with drugs and of the issues surrounding antibiotic resistance.

The Resources are all on the PowerPoint file. Print slides 2 and 3 onto card and cut out to make a set of cards. Print off a copy of the Doctor's case file and also give each student a copy of the sheet to fill in. Students read each patient's symptoms and use the information from the Doctor's file and the drug cards to determine which drug could be suitable. They need to justify their answer.
