Weather front review with math calculations of how long it will take for a front to reach a given city.

This is a great way to integrate some math practice with your science
Prep for this lesson includes printing out each of the 20 different weather front slides and handing them around the room or you could put them at different stations.

The class starts by a teacher lead review of the 4 main weather fronts providing a definition and map symbol for the students to copy down on their sheet. (you may or may not use the 90second youtube video link before starting)

After the notes I do the first map slide together with the class

Students must identify (2,3,4 are provided on each slide)
1. What type of weather front is starred on the map.
2. Then write down the city it is headed to.
3. How far away it is from the city
4. How fast it is moving

Finally they must divide to find out how long it will take for that front to get to the city, I had my classes do this last and I let them just find out the speed in hours to the nearest hundredth place, however you can have them figure out the days, hours, and minutes.

This is a great way to get the students up and moving while tying in some math practice.
