Zion - A place on the south-eastern hill of Jerusalem; We read first about Zion in: 2 Samuel 5:7 there it is mentioned as a stronghold of Jebusites which was captured by David. He and made his residence there. It is called: the city of David, designating Jerusalem. The name also refers to those who are living in Zion that is the inhabitants. In Arabic similar root means to protect, crest of a hill, citadel. This relates to the idea of castle. The root ציה means a barren place, bare hill.
