When chapter 2 rolls around, we learn a small fact about Billy's mom that is a huge snapshot into the setting, history, and Billy's family: Billy's mom is Cherokee and was giving Cherokee land.

This activity will lead students to read some information and assess some videos/audio about the Trail of Tears that unjustly treated many native tribes, including the Cherokee of Billy's family and region. Students will learn what the Trail of Tears is, who created it, and why they did it. A great activity to engage them during the reading journey.
