Aimed at Y7/8, this PPT is easily adapted for Y5/6. The PPT includes teaching notes, lesson plan and differentiated questioning. The whole lesson including plenty of peer & self assessment with LOTS & HOTS and green pen reflection. The aim of the lesson is for pupils to understand why Sikhs celebrate Diwali but why Sikhs call it Bandi Chhor divas (Prisoner release day). The lesson takes them through the story and enables them to identify themes in common with Diwali, Christmas, Hannukah such as good & evil. Can be easily linked to the Holocaust and Black history month through questioning and extending the activities. The next lesson looks and how Sikhs celebrate Diwali. Please help me to improve and review they lesson.
