Here is 6 days (over 2 weeks lesson plans) on instructional writing, based around Wind in the Willows, but could easily be adapted. It begins with a practical lesson where children follow different instructions and discover why it is important that instructions are clear, to a spag lesson on Imperative verbs, a lesson where they 'text mark' or identify the features specific to instructional writing. Children then receive a letter (differentiated) from the WinW characters asking them to write instructions for various aspects of a picnic, finally a 'prove it' style lesson where children assess their writing to see what they did/did not include. All aimed at Y4 but differentiated to meet some Y3 objectives also. All resources and active inspire flips are included.
