Write the Room Rhythms - Black History Edition
This set 15 influential African Americans from various historical eras and their name rhythms, formatted in various ways to allow for a variety of options! Four different recording sheets are provided to give options for using this activity multiple times.

♫ To display large patterns on board, open Write the Room Black History Edition Patterns, and select view Full Screen. Practice reading and chanting patterns using any system of rhythm syllables.

♫ Print (and laminate) large patterns. Post 5 patterns and give all students the same recording sheet. Repeat this activity on 4 different weeks, perhaps during February’s African American History Month.

♫ Post all 15 patterns and randomly distribute 3 or 4 different recording sheets. Give students a clipboard and allow them to circulate around the room to find the answers for their worksheet.

♫ Print (and laminate) small pattern cards. Use small cards as center activities. Create 4 centers to coordinate with the 4 worksheets.

♫ With all options, practice chanting the name rhythms with the rhythm syllables used in your classroom.

♫ Create rhythmic ostinati with one or more of the name rhythms.
