This lesson relies on an independent group, and a fair level of control. Splitting the class into 6 groups, they remind themselves of their strategic position (follow up from previous lesson) and decide their main aims, and who they think could support with this. They then have to try and negotiate alliances with other countries, persuading them to join by offering them back-up. After they have presented back to the class their proposed alliances, you can compare with the actual Alliance System. I was so surprise how similarly the alliances worked out!
