Y3/4 LKS2 English - “The Promise” Writing Unit 5 Lessons, PPT Slides, WAGOLL, Vocabulary & Scaffolds

I created and used this 5-lesson English writing unit based on The Promise by Nicola Davies with my lower KS2 class to develop descriptive writing skills and confidence.
It would suit either Year 3 or Year 4.

Each lesson builds the tools children need to create a full setting description by the end of the unit.

Lesson focuses on the PPT:
Lesson 1: Expanded noun phrases for detail and imagery
Lesson 2: Similes for vivid comparisons
Lesson 3: Application of ENPS and similes in a written paragraph
Lesson 4: Fronted adverbials of place for varied sentence openings
Lesson 5: Independent writing using a clear success criteria

What’s included:
-Editable PowerPoint slides for each lesson (adaptable for Year 3 or 4)
-A WAGOLL text modelling all target skills
-Vocabulary slide with visuals to support SEN learners and aid understanding
-Scaffolds/examples to support lower-attaining writers

This unit also works really well to complement topics on urban regeneration, nature or discussions about the environment/care for creation.
