LESSON 11-13 (TRIPLE): This lesson explores the codes and conventions of newspapers as well as the terminology used on covers e.g. mastheads, puff, standalone etc. The Triple lesson culminates in a walking, talking mock whereby students are supported with content from the examiner's indicative feedback on a mock question from the SAM's exemplar assessments. Students will attempt this mock and will be able to bring the resource they design into the mock. This lesson is heavily based upon key terminology and discovery learning. It covers:

-Tabloids vs Broadhseets
-Red-tops
-An overview of the current decline in print with a task focused on 'The Times' and 'The Daily Mirror' whereby students compile facts that they can put into their exam responses to impress the examiner.
-Circulation and Readership
-Left-Wing vs Right-Wing ideologies in newspapers
-Application and assessment of all retained Media Language terms learnt last H Term e.g. Codes, conventions, mise-en-scene, Direct Mode of Address, Anchorage etc.

This lesson contains a H/W task based on the fact-sheets provided by the examining board as well as a fantastic resource found on ideologies and agenda's of the two newspapers (knowledge needed for the next lesson). The resource also includes to readership breakdowns of the newspapers as well as a worksheet and reusable starter whereby when laminated, students need to match up the correct conventional terms of a newspaper cover with that of 4 different newspaper covers.

This will be uploaded as a series of lessons on Component 1, Section A and will be part of a group of resources with different theories/terms as headings under each Exam Component.

This lesson is therefore Ideal for those wanting to Team Teach or teach Component 1, Sections A and B at differing times.

NOTE: I am following EDUQAS Teaching Model 1 in my teaching/ SOW and my school is only providing Media Studies at A-Level, as a Two- Year Course. Moreover, each lesson has a task whereby students RAG (Red, Amber, Green) what they have learnt in the lesson against an Examiner checklist (Differentiation, peer assessment).

If you liked this resource and found it useful, it would be greatly appreciated if you could feedback or rate my resource as I am constantly trying to adapt and refine my resources to improve the learning of my students. Many thanks.
