I was struggling to find an interesting way to teach and consolidate Roman numerals with my Year 5 class so I created this treasure hunt for the children to complete. Not only are the clues numbered with Roman numerals but they also feature questions (in Roman numerals) for the children to solve to find the letters to crack the secret message.

Please feel free to adapt or change any of the clues to suit your school. The children really enjoyed this activity and spent a good hour rushing around searching for and working out the clues.

This pack includes, a teacher sheet, an answer sheet for the children and large cards for the clues. I laminated the cards first before placing them around as it was a bit damp when we did this! The children had clipboards and paper to do any working out on.

Note: Remember to make a plan of where the clues are hidden and place them at the number BEFORE stated on the card. So for clue one, I read this one out loud to the children and then said 'GO' and they all had to run off and find the first clue, the second clue was placed at the answer to the clue of number one, and so on...

It took a long time to think of the clues (which is why they're so cheesy), so hopefully someone benefits from this activity! Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Enjoy :)
