Lesson 8 in my Year 9 scheme of work on World War II - I like this lesson so much I have adapted it in the past for 16+ and GCSE. This lesson focuses on the use of the Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It also involves a highly interactive egg task - instructions for which are included and all pupils I have done this with have absolutely loved it! That task allows them to understand the capability of a nuclear bomb and the remainder of the lesson is about assessing whether the Americans were right to drop the bomb. I LOVE this lesson! :-)

Learning Outcomes:

To know the events behind the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
To understand the impact of the bombs
To make an assessment whether the Americans were right to drop the Atomic Bombs.
