{Freebie} Christmas: Christmas Cloze Interactive Fun Powerpoint Game

This interactive Christmas Powerpoint Game is just a little seasonal fun for early finishers.

Students have the task of reading some simple Christmas related sentences and working out, from a choice of three answers, what the missing word should be.

If students click on the incorrect answer, the box and the word will fall away. If they click the correct answer, the word will do a happy dance! The correct word will then appear in the gap, accompanied by a sound.

This quiz type game can be played independently or in small groups. Reading fluency and comprehension skills are challenged throughout the quiz.

The game opens in presentation mode, so that little fingers cannot edit or delete anything.

Suitable for KS1/Lower KS2.

Sprinkle a pinch of festivity during the last lessons of the year while encouraging your elementary and intermediate-level students to improve their reading, writing and speaking skills, as well as their vocabulary.

Christmas Performance Poetry

Christmas Performance Poetry for KS1 or KS2.

A five-lesson literacy unit of poetry planning, based on performing Christmas poetry. The planning is adaptable for Key Stages 1 and 2, with ideas included for how to use it younger or older classes.

In this unit, pupils will read the poem ‘Sly Santa Claus’ and they will consider how the sounds and language patterns come alive when the poem is read aloud, particularly focussing on the use of verbs and onomatopiea. Children will work towards creating their version of the Christmas poem and turning it into an effective performance.

The aims of the unit for pupils are:
• To listen to a classic Christmas poem being read aloud
• To identify verbs and onomatopoeic phrases
• To prepare a poetry performance by planning actions or props
• To perform a poem to an audience
• To identify successful features of a performance

The PDF file contains 5 full literacy lesson plans, copies of the poem and all accompanying pupil resources.

Christmas for EFL & ESL Learners.

This fun Christmas resource is suitable for EFL and ESL learners. All the words and phrases have sound icons, which can be played for the introduction/ repetition of all the words and phrases. Answers for all activities appear on the PowerPoint.
This resource initially introduces 18 Christmas words with many practice activities. There is a match-up listening activity for these words too. The PowerPoint goes on to introduce 12 Christmas phrases, with another listening activity and a reading activity. There is then a ‘create a Christmas card’ slide and a word search. 12 further words for popular Christmas presents are introduced, followed by a reading activity. There is also a slide to encourage pupils to create a Christmas picture. There is a lengthy worksheet, which accompanies the activities on the PowerPoint and a separate word search document. The PowerPoint has 69 slides.
