What is it?
When I put together a collection of my favourite Pythagoras and trigonometry resources on TES, it reminded me just how much I enjoy teaching that first lesson on Pythagoras. It is the perfect chance for students to discover one of our subject’s greatest theorems for themselves.
Some might ask whether it is useful to spend precious lesson time encouraging students to explore something that they already know. But it's only by experiencing the process of discovery that pupils can learn the skills and motivation required to do so again.
This engaging and well-structured resource offers such an opportunity.
How can it be used?
There is enough content here for one full lesson, complete with clear instructions. The approach will enable all students to make some progress, but the most able can be challenged by further questioning as to why their findings are true.
If that wasn’t enough, there is also a second lesson, which is jam-packed with routine and non-routine questions and including full, written solutions.
