Symmetry Hunt and challenge

This is a free-standing resource on finding the amount of line symmetry and rotational symmetry of 2D shapes.

It's taken from a Murder Mystery Package I wrote hence it includes a small riddle element at the end. There are two levels of difficulty (A is easier than B) that both have the same solution.

2D shapes displays/cards

I wanted a way to display all geometrical properties of 2D shapes in my class by using the correct symbols - after looking on the web and in books for ages, I had to give in and make my own! They look great on the wall, on a red paper background, and I have noticed students gravitating towards them more and more. I hope this is useful for others too.

KS3 / GCSE. Transformations AfL Spot the Mistakes

PRINT each docyment IN A BOOKLET FORMAT 2 KS3 / GCSE worksheets activities. PAGES PER PAGE, so it fits onto 1 sheet of paper. This is a spot the mistake activity where students have to mark the work of a fictional character 'Stephen'. Students can work in pairs and mark the work of Stephen and if Stephen makes a mistake point out his mistake. A good AfL question and possible exam revision booklet. Pupils should be given a red pen for this activity for them to really get into the role of the teacher. Enlargement, rotation, reflection.

As a starter they had to attempt the red, orange and green questions on the board on their triangle to see how much they could already remember and this dictates where they start the worksheets from. If they could not remember anything they are allowed to leave their post-it note blank and they had a multiplication grid to complete with negative numbers and fractions. Ofsted good lesson and very differentiated.
