UK General Election Presentation / Lesson

UK General Election Presentation / Lesson

This resource can form a lesson, informing children about the importance of General Elections (like 2017) and why we have them. This Powerpoint presentation allows children to learn about what 'government' is, how it is structured, what different major parties form our current government and what their current policies are (which I have sourced as independently as possible using various news outlets and party pages, barring any U-turns!) This then goes on to allow children to discuss the policies presented to them and to think about what matters / appeals to them the most, with the aim of encouraging freedom of independent thought and debate. Due to the complex wording of some policies, this resource would be most appropriate for UKS2 and KS3, and possibly LKS2 with detailed supporting verbal explanation of key issues provided by teaching staff, such as Brexit. The class can then go on to hold a Polling Station to vote, with polling cards included in the resource pack, before votes being counted and the results being displayed on the slide in both percentage and pie chart form.

Role Models and Superheroes

Role Models and Superheroes

Originally a ‘learn to learn/Citizenship’ lesson for a SEN low ability special needs class. Has been adapted slightly. It asks pupils to think about role models, characteristics, and what we should aspire to. I normally hand draw a ‘superhero’ body outline and ask pupils to use colours and design to reflect a villain side and a hero side - this way they have to consider colour connotations too!

What made 9/11 so shocking?

What made 9/11 so shocking?

There aren't many September 11th lessons out there so here's one! The main objective is for students to gauge how 'complete' a BBC news clip is. The PowerPoint includes task descriptions but please ask if you can't follow the lesson. The bottom of the posters should be folded up so that you can reveal the answers! You choose the plenary. If you know of a short clip which was produced a little after the event that would be useful. Any comments are appreciated! :-) Images acquired through a search engine filtered to "labelled for reuse" BBC own the copyright to the clip in the link. I've been observed in this lesson and graded as outstanding so hopefully this works for you too.(911, 9-11)

Religion and Sport

Religion and Sport

This lesson is part of the inter-disciplinary project: Religion and Sport. Pupils learn to describe a situation where an athlete may experience a conflict between the requirements of their religious belief and the demands of their sport, to identify and explain any religious beliefs/practices associated with the potential conflict and to discuss factors that will influence choices for a person facing such a conflict. The resource can be used with S1/S2/S3 classes (Scotland) or year 7/8/9 (England) and it is designed to last 1-2 periods. Pupils are encouraged to debate, to express their own opinions and to think more deeply about this topic. The activities are designed to give all pupils opportunities to achieve all success criteria and experience enjoyment at the same time. The PowerPoint, with a very clear structure and eye-catching images can be used to boost vocabulary, to consolidate understanding and encourage confident thinking. Please rate and leave comments if you use or like this resource.
