The perfect tense with hobbies

The perfect tense with hobbies

Using a reading task about what I did at the weekend to revise the perfect tense, I use it at the beginning of Yr9 with the topic 'Ca t'interesse' from Expo. Last activity is a game of football, you need to print a picture of a football to be able to play (or add one you can move on the ppt)

La Musique

La Musique

KS3 French lesson that teaches pupils to use opinion phrases with different types of music. I taught this to a Year 7 class who are quite high ability so I think it could easily be adapted for a lower-ability year 8 class. All activities are differentiated according to coloured pathways - green is lower-ability, blue is middle and yellow is higher-attaining pupils.

Comme D'habitude - Future

Comme D'habitude - Future

A song to practice reading and listening skills around the Claude François song. The reading questions can be either as a running competition in groups (1 student per group gets a question from me, the first group to answer all the questions correclty wins) or just questions on the board (older students).

Free time / Music Challenge tasks

Free time / Music Challenge tasks

Three 'Challenge Tasks' on the topic of music. These are all based on authentic French resources (mainly infographs found on Pinterest) with comprehension questions added. I put these up on my 'Challenge Wall' in the classroom for the term and direct any students to them who finish their work early. To save photocopying costs I encourage students not to write on the sheets and to put them back on the wall when they're finished. I find that students get a huge sense of achievement from knowing that they are reading and understanding real French literature! As an extra incentive to try more difficult work I offer 'challenge stars' in return for tackling these tricky tasks. These are converted periodically into merits.

AS/A-level French translation units

AS/A-level French translation units

This is a bundle of ten AS/A-level French units of work which support the sub-themes of the three English examination boards. All AQA units (year 1) are covered. Each unit consists of 7 to 9 pages of densely packed activities centred around a text and with an ultimate focus on translation into French. Tasks include matching, definitions, gap-fill, grammar drills, translation both ways, questions, comprehension, speaking and writing and vocabulary list completion. Each unit builds up in difficulty and features pre-reading and pre-translation tasks leading to three translation passages into French, graded in difficulty. You would use these during the first year of a two year course, or for revision in the second year. The 10 topics are: family, cyber-society, education, work, volunteering, music, cinema, literature, personal identity and cultural heritage.Every unit comes with answers, so you could hand these out for independent work or use them in class with little preparation. You might like to put the units together as a booklet (about 110 pages) to be kept in class or given out to students.Separately, each unit costs £3. We are selling the bundle of 10 units for £20. Once photocopied they will last you several years. The units were co-written by Gianfranco Conti and Steve Smith and apply some of the principles laid out in their book The Language Teacher Toolkit.
