Links to Youtube videos of different German cover versions of songs by Katy Perry, Bruno Mars etc. Also links to Youtube videos of celebrities speaking some German This can be used in a variety of ways. It could also be a starter for pupils translating a popular song into German themselves, a chorus or the whole song depending on ability. GOODBYE LENIN film project adapted to new GCSE 2018 FILMKRITIK FILM REVIEW

GOODBYE LENIN film project adapted to new GCSE 2018 FILMKRITIK FILM REVIEW

This contains a whole film project about "Goodbye Lenin" which I used for my year 10 groups over 2 weeks (7 lessons). We did it at the end of "Zeit fuer Freizeit" unit from the Stimmt 9-1 Higher textbook to expose pupils to an authentic German film full of culture. In the Power Point you have an outline of how I structured the lessons + activities from the booklet. I created also a booklet for pupils with all activities around the film.Over the course of the lessons pupils will explore the historical East vs West Germany division, the concepts of Wende and Ostalgie and loads of activities on the film. The year 10s loved the whole project and motivation was high since they are a very clever group. At the same time they loved doing something which is usually required at A-level.At the end of the PPT and the booklet you also find the questions for the speaking assessment and a writing assessment task in the new GCSE style! It worked so well!

German Music Quiz with German Medley

German Music Quiz with German Medley

This quiz is based on a three minute medley of German songs. There are two versions of the quiz, one for KS3-4 and a more difficult one for 6th form. It would be ideal as an introduction to the topic Music or as a fun game at the end of the lesson. If played in teams it usually takes about 20 min - students answer questions about the genre, description and content and guess which band picture goes with which song.Note: The lyrics of the first song as slightly explicit, it might have to be skipped if the teacher feels that the students' German is good enough to realise.

World War 2 Music (1930's - 1940's music)

This is a 6 lesson topic exploring the music listened to and played during World War 2. The children will develop an understanding of the styles of music civilians and soldiers were listening to during the 1930's and 1940's including Vera Lynn, George Formby, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong etc. They will also learn how to play a simple swing/jazz piece of music (C Jam Blues), develop their improvisation skills and sing a fun Glenn Miller inspired song. By the end of the topic the class will have a good understanding of the music of World War 2, the instruments that make a jazz/big band, the role music and songs played during the war, what swing music is and how to improvise using the pentatonic scale. Overall, this topic will help children develop a range of skills including listening and appraisal, singing, musical instrument playing, improvising and performing.

Classical Music Worksheet

Classical Music Worksheet

My year 12 HATED this, but I'm still sharing it in case somebody else taches a more cultured lot. They said the music was too slow and dark. The sheet could be edited, with a different choice of music. I can upload the music as well, if you can't get your hands on it. (not sure about copyright though).
