My Home Writing/ Speaking practice GCSE

My Home Writing/ Speaking practice GCSE

Writing and Speaking practice for the new GCSE (based on the AQA scheme of work), can be used across any language (in my school we use it for German, French and Spanish).I use this at the end of a module for students to recap and add it to their file for future reference. It prepares them for writing assessments and the general conversation part of the speaking assessment. There are 8 questions for students to answer on the topic MY HOME.I have also included a generic checklist for students to use, to make sure they are using tenses, opinions, justification etc. as well as a blank checklist for teachers/ students to add language specifics/ extra criteria for higher target grades. I am also selling similar placemats for other topics.

Google Street View treasure hunt to practise directions!

Google Street View treasure hunt to practise directions!

This is a fantastic way to get kids to practise directions and places in town in a foreign language. Find a town where Google street is operational and make a list of instructions for kids to navigate, as if they were actually navigating in that town. It's a little time consuming to make, but kids really enjoy it and it's the next best thing to actually visiting the place in person! The follow-up activity is to get kids to plan one of their own in a town of their choice, to get them to practise places in town, using directions, and using the imperative.I have used it with my Year 8 group, as well as my Year 12 ab initio group, but it can be adapted to any year group by changing the level of difficulty of the questions.

Furniture: German Vocabulary Card Sort

Furniture: German Vocabulary Card Sort

This is a card sort to help students learn words related to furniture (20 words in total). This would be a useful task with younger groups or low ability groups. There are three separate files, depending on how you want to present the task.- The 'teacher copy' shows a grid with all items already matched. - The 'student version' is a random layout, print this out and give to students. They can then cut out the items and match them, or stick them into their workbooks.- The 'quick cut' is designed so that you can produce 10 packs of cards quickly and easily using a guillotine. Each page has the same card 10 times over. This allows you to remove words that may not be suitable or needed.
