Holi Hindu Spring Festival of Colours Assembly

Holi Hindu Spring Festival of Colours AssemblyA riot! An explosion of colour! Well, not quite. It's those wretched Health and Safety Regulations spoiling all the fun again. Oh plus some facts behind the festival of course!Cast of 30. Duration 10 - 20 minutes depending on amount of music/dancing Sample Text:Narrator: Er wait a minute! Don’t go spilling any of that blue paint on this floor!Krishna: But that’s the fun of Holi!Radha: Everyone does it!Narrator: Not on my watch, they don’t!(Narrator ushers Krishna, his mother and Radha back to their seats)Narrator: (Sighing heavily) Phew! That was a close one! Things could have got well out of hand then! (To Group 1) Come on children! Let’s hear some more about Holi!Child 11: Only if we can have a bit more dancing, first!Narrator: (Spluttering) But, but … that’s blackmail!(Group 1 all nod their heads)Narrator: Oh, very well. I don’t suppose it can do any harm!(Enter group of dancers)Music 3(Dancers do Bollywood routine to music)Narrator: (Applauding) Bravo! Well done! (To audience) You know something? This dancing is rather good, isn’t it?(Exit dancers)Child 1: Well of course it is! Holi is all about joy and funChild 2: And that’s what dancing is about!Child 3: (Muttering) That and the paint throwing!Narrator: Now! Now! We’ve been over that! Child 4: So, we can have some more dancing, instead?(Narrator gestures dancers, who’ve got to their feet again, to sit down)Narrator: In a minute! Oh my! What is it with everyone this morning? Holi - festival of colours - Festival of love - History - Story - Description + 2 Kid Reading Books

Holi - festival of colours - Festival of love - History - Story - Description + 2 Kid Reading Books

Holi is an Indian Spring Festival which is now celebrated around the world. My presentation comes complete with a story about why this festival is important (you can choose between a long or short version), a description of what happens and lots of colourful pictures of the event. In addition, you are able to read the lives of two Indian children as they get ready for Holi and what they do on the day. These could be printed off and read individually or they could be projected onto the interactive whiteboard and read as a class. The students could then think about how they would like to celebrate the coming of Spring and who knows, perhaps even have their own version of Holi in the classroom!

Third Culture Kid Short Film Video Lesson Plan

Third Culture Kid Short Film Video Lesson Plan

This is the presentation and video guide that I use along with the film "The Road Home" a short film about 3rd Culture Kids. The overall length of the video is 21 minutes. The lesson takes about 1 hour. This film is perfect for 4th-12th grade because it touches on an emotional topic in a way that kids can relate to and is school appropriate. The film is PG. My students enjoy the film and discussing how what people see us as, doesn't always equal who we feel we are. Furthermore, it opens the discussion of how do we move forward when people treat only as they see us?It's a great film.Film summary:"Growing up in England, ten-year old Pico never wanted to go to boarding school in the Himalayas, and despite the beauty there, he struggles to fit in. When he's bullied for insisting he's British in spite of his Indian heritage, he runs away, determined to return to his home in London. As he journeys through a country foreign to him, Pico encounters others who mistake him for an Indian boy, forcing him to face the painful truth that the world does not see him the way he sees himself."Included:1. Power Point with directions2. Student handout3. External Link to additional fitting resourceNOTE: You have to submit your email address to get the video for free, but it isn't on a full screen. It worked fine for my students. You can also buy the film as well.

Numbers: Hindi Vocabulary Card Sort

Numbers: Hindi Vocabulary Card Sort

This is a card sort to help students learn words for numbers (30 words in total). This resource covers 1-20 and 30,40,50,60,70,80,90,100,1000,1000000. This would be a useful task with younger groups or low ability groups. There are three separate files, depending on how you want to present the task.- The 'teacher copy' shows a grid with all items already matched. - The 'student version' is a random layout, print this out and give to students. They can then cut out the items and match them, or stick them into their workbooks.- The 'quick cut' is designed so that you can produce 10 packs of cards quickly and easily using a guillotine. Each page has the same card 10 times over. This allows you to remove words that may not be suitable or needed. Alternatively you can print the same page twice double-sided to produce flash cards.
