Spanish Phonics (1)

Spanish Phonics (1)

We put a lot of time into teaching the sounds of Spanish (phonics). The approach is the foundation of our primary Spanish resources as well as something we reinforce a lot at the start of Y7. There are several phonics resources I’ve uploaded to the site. Just search for ‘phonics’ and they should come up.

Jack and the Beanstalk

Jack and the Beanstalk

This sequence of 3 or 4 lessons uses the story of Jack and the Beanstalk to work on using the preterit to narrate stories in the past. I wrote it with Y8 (second year Spanish learners at my school) in mind but it could easily work with Y9 as it is or be differentiated to make it suitable for Y7 or younger. Thank you to the British Council for the pictures.

I Spy - 6 lesson module

I Spy - 6 lesson module

This is my version of a great idea developed in Norfolk by some teachers and Adam Cooke, LA advisor. On the Norfolk LA website you can find French and German versions of the lessons, complete with plans, individual word documents and worksheets etc.. I believe there is also a Spanish version but before I found it, I'd adapted the idea from the French one to make this resource. It includes a real focus on pronunciation & phonics as well as leading up to the writing of a present tense story using 'interesting' AR regular verbs.

Phonetic Spelling Spanish KS3

Phonetic Spelling Spanish KS3

A KS3 resource created to follow a lesson in which students have been introduced to the sounds of the Spanish alphabet. This presentation runs through and recaps sounds of the Spanish alphabet and challenges students to spell both seen and unseen words out loud in a Spelling Bee exercise with their partners. Tried and tested - students love the Spelling Bee activity. Partners choose a word from their list and then test each other on unseen words (resources attached). This can then be extended to students standing in front of the class and spelling words read out by volunteers.

GCSE 2016 Spanish - Getting started

GCSE 2016 Spanish - Getting started

In this bundle you will find three great resources to get started with the new GCSEs! 1) General conversation booklet with lots of questions for your students to practice their oral skills. 2) An introductory lesson with some important basic topics (what's your name, how are you, how old are you, numbers 1 to 50, greetings, tú and usted). 3) A very detailed Power Point that I have designed to show my students how to pronounce every letter in the Spanish alphabet. As you may know, each letter of the alphabet represents a single sound, and it is very important that they know how to pronounce them in order to achieve good grades in their speaking assessments. Hope you find it helpful! Thank you very much!
