A2 Speaking cards

A2 Speaking cards

A simple set of 54 speaking cards on the topics of:ENVIRONMENT >Pollution >Energy >Protecting the planetTHE MULTICULTURAL SOCIETY >Immigration >Integration >RacismCONTEMPORARY SOCIAL ISSUES >Wealth and poverty >Law and order >IT Just print and play!To be honest I love these cards simply because they are so easy to store (can easily fit into the palm of your hand) and the students can take them with them as either homework or practice. Somehow students are keener to work on a small card rather than the normal A4 format for some reason. I guess it looks like less hard work when it's really the same :) .

The CONDITIONAL tense and living conditions in GUATEMALA.

The CONDITIONAL tense and living conditions in GUATEMALA.

OBJECTIVE OF THE LESSON: To describe what would the lives of children in Guatemala be like using the conditional tense. The lesson was designed for a Top set year 9 class but can be used for a Year 10/11 class. There is a video link and questions included. The video is a great way to get students hooked at the start of the lesson or it can be watched as a reward and summary at the end of the lesson. After the video, the lesson then focuses on key vocabulary to describe living conditions in Guatemala. Then a revision of the the conditional tense. This includes students conjugating verbs and focusing on irregulars in the conditional tense. This prepares students to complete the reading and translation activity (great prep for the new GCSE!) Students translate both into English and Spanish. There is a more challenging text included for the very able students. The PowerPoint includes answers for the translation and students can be awarded points for each correct sentence based on difficulty. I allowed students to work in groups of 4, but that can be flexible based on the type of class you have.NB: Further detail can be seen in the lesson plan included in the resources.I hope you enjoy using this resource! Spanish Lesson Plan - Language through Music - Song: Ella y El by Ricardo Arjona

The idea of Language Through Music is to learn Spanish by looking at modern popular hits from the Latin American music world. Songs are chosen following a specific criteria. They will generally cover topics of historical/social/political interest tackling issues affecting modern Latin American society, thereby creating opportunity for discussion and practice of oral skills. Furthermore it this gives the teacher the possibility interlink a wider ranger of activities within the same lesson/set of lesson. Due to copyright reasons I cannot include the original audio file with the material, however all of the songs will be widely available on the net/Youtube/iTunes and I will provide a working link. The use of realia such modern songs in the learning process will give the student more of a feel of real-world application of his language skills as well as an enriching cultural experience in itself.Spanish lesson plan for up to 3 hours. In depth analysis of the song "Ella y El" by the popular Guatemalan songwriter Ricardo Arjona. This song touches a number of topics but the main one regards the Cuban Embargo and Cuba's social/political history during the last 50 years.Includes:- Full Lyrics text of the song- Comprehension questions relating to the content of the text- 2 pages of exercises aimed at developing a deeper understanding of the expressions and metaphors used in the song.- Reading comprehension text "La Historia del Bloqueo en Cuba"- Set of questions related to the text.- A Mind map outlining important points for a class discussion on the topic.Youtube link for the song:https://youtu.be/K6PXwxi4eJIANSWER SHEET is not included cause many questions are discussion based however if you require answer guidelines I will be happy to provide you with a free copy.

El paro / El desempleo (Work and Unemployment in Spain)

El paro / El desempleo (Work and Unemployment in Spain)

A series of 3 lessons I've made on unemployment.Powerpoint 1 outlines the economic crisis in Spain and how unemployment levels rose during the recessions. It has a video / listening comprehension at the end, with a youtube video (hyperlink included). At the end it says 'worksheet' - but this is a worksheet I downloaded from someone else off TES so has not been included as part of this resource.Powerpoint 2 is 'Have I got News For You' themed using articles / titles of articles taken from EL PAIS the week this lesson was done (Jan/Feb 2016). Some are a bit of fun/ silly, then they lead on to things which are more related to unemployment in spain & the work place. There is also a video comprehension at the end about whether 2015 has been a good year for Spain's labour market.Powerpoint 3 is based solidly around the Sigue A2 book (chapter 3). I have developed the comprehension activities into more kinaesthetic work - as explained in notes section of the pwp. Also a gap fill taken from Sigue A2 chap 3. Would recommend doing this lesson alongside work on the imperative. Also attached an article from El Pais about the rise in Unemployment in Jan 16.Another article and reading comprehension (article from EL PAIS, comprehension created by me) also attached about women in the labour market / unemployment.Images taken from google.Hope this is useful to someone out there!

Auroville - A2 Revision (Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing)

Auroville - A2 Revision (Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing)

I was lucky enough to find a story I can relate to most of the topics covered in the AQA A2 exam.It is some info about a place called Auroville (in India) and the idea seems fascinating to me and fortunately my students liked it too so feel free to have a look and use it in your lessons if you find it useful. There is a bit of everything: Short intro, Reading, Listening (+transcription), Speaking, Writing + some activities.Topics that can be included: ENVIRONMENT, THE MULTICULTURAL SOCIETY, CONTEMPORARY SOCIAL ISSUES. And for that reason I think it is perfect for a quick revision.Comments always welcomed!

La diversidad cultural en América (con foco en Sudamérica)

La diversidad cultural en América (con foco en Sudamérica)

This lesson focuses on South America cultural diversity, natural wonders and social issues. With a very famous and controversial advert, we explore the vocabulary related to the topic and invite the students to do a research depending on their areas of interest and to be prepared to feedback to the class. This material is meant to be covered in roughly 4 hours of teaching and it prepares students to debate about the social issues and challenges that South America faces at the moment. It ultimate aims to give the students a broad understanding of the Spanish speaking word and it can be used for both A level and IB (DP).
