A selection of presentations and activities that introduce vectors by getting the students to draw basic column vectors and discovering parallel and perpendicular vectors. This leads on to scalar product and finding the angle between 2 vectors. The other large presentation shows students how to write an equation of a line in parametric form. It includes activities like finding intersection points. It also covers skew lines and finding the closest distance between a point and a line.SMART Notebook Express presentations can be used for free by using SMART online or by downloading SMART software, also free, I use it because it allows a more interactive presentation than a powerpoint. A presentation exploring ambiguity in the operations and objects of Maths and a set of concept maps that connect various topics of GCSE and IB/A level syllabuses. Quadratic, Log, Trigonometric and Functions are mapped in detail. Useful crossover introductory material that can provide some meaning and context in helping to make some connections between otherwise disparate fields. The presentation develops five areas in which the terms and processes of mathematics are inherently ambiguous: from the irrationals and infinity, the variable as a receptacle, the filling of the number line, forming operations with numbers to the notion of equality and sameness. That is from a number being both a noun (a fractional object) and a verb (process of adding a convergent series of rationals). That algebraic formulations using a variable x, allow for x in one sense to have any value ( before the equation is solved) to a specific value when it has been solved. As five separate chapters each one can serve as nonstandard provocative discussion/starter/plenary material .

This is a very engaging and tactical game that can be played by 2-4 players.Students take it in turns to play a vector card to move their counter around the track. Once they get the hang of this they should start playing combinations of vectors to move around more quickly.Differentiated by outcome (students choose the difficulty of the combinations they play) and differentiated by task (make the game harder by only allowing 3 or more cards to be played at once.Students will get lots of practice adding and subtracting vectors, as well as multiplying them by scalar quantities.

These activities are designed to promote discussion and mathematical reasoning skills around vectors and vector addition/subtraction.The first activity asks students to work in pairs to match a resultant vector diagram to an expression like a + b. For extension, students show the vector addition visually and then write it formally for each card.The second activity asks students to sort cards that contain statements about combining vectors in to three columns (Always True, Always False, and Sometimes True) and justify their answers (again in pairs).

I have split the entire course into 10 lessons (content includes much more!). Each lesson includes a bank of exam questions related to the topics with answers; a PowerPoint; Extra questions; and a 20 minute test.
