Plotting coordinates using up to four quadrants!

Plotting coordinates using up to four quadrants!

I have created this for a year 5 top set maths group. It is differentiated 3 ways, yellow being the less able, green able and pink more able. This links in very heavily with shape as I am teaching this following 3 weeks on shape, space and measure, so it will continue to embed their knowledge of quadrilaterals, types of triangles, angles and parallel and perpendicular lines. Hope this is useful! Have included photos of what it should look like once points have been plotted, hopefully I haven't made any silly mistakes! :-)

When they finish a question they get it marked and if it is correct they are given cash to the value of the question. Writing in Math--Geometry--Two Truths and a Lie

Writing in Math--Geometry--Two Truths and a Lie

A unique way to get students writing in math. This has 21 pages with 21 graphics related to triangle properties, area of polygons, and volume of rectangular prisms. Having students write in mathematics can be difficult. Get students up and moving around the room while they are engaged in writing in math with this activity. Students will write two truths and one lie (adapted from the get to know you game) about the graphics. Teacher Instructions included. There are two versions. In the first versions, each group of students will get a graphic or word problems and write two truths and one lie about it. Afterwards, students will get sticky notes to identify the lies on other groups papers. In a second version of this, the truths and the lies are already written and students need to identify which of the three statements is the lie. This can be used as a review at the end of the lesson. You could use all the pages at once or break it up by unit. There are potentially three days of activities here: triangle properties, area of polygons, and volume of rectangular prisms.

Geometry: Real Life Graphs - Drawing and Interpreting rates of change (+ resources)

Geometry: Real Life Graphs - Drawing and Interpreting rates of change (+ resources)

This is an excellent look at different questions on rates of change and drawing real life graphs. This is one of the new "hot" topics for KS4 / GCSE as well as being appropriate for stronger groups at KS3.This Powerpoint gives lots of structure to the lesson, including an interesting starter, learning objectives, several matching exercises / MWB activities, a worksheet with answers and a challenging plenary. This lesson is a great accompaniment to my lesson on travel graphs and together helps pupils becoming much better at interpreting and drawing graphs. I have also uploaded a very large 4 lesson bundle of linear graphs, which might also be helpful to do at the same time.NOTE: Feel free to browse my shop for more excellent free and premium resources and as always please rate and feedback, thanks.

Area & Circumference of Circles Solve & Draw Activity

Area & Circumference of Circles Solve & Draw Activity

Solve and Draw no-prep printables for are an easy, no-prep way to make math practice more engaging. This resource may be used as a fun quiz or review, for center or station activities, for fast finishers, as homework, or as a sub day activity. How Solve & Draw Activities WorkStudents solve the area and circumference problems and add to the drawing based on their answers. Two versions of each page (excluding the challenge page) are included. One has answers with pi, the other has answers that require calculating with pi (use 3.14 for pi). The drawings and prompts are identical – to tell the difference you will need to look at the answer choices or at the top left circle of the border. Level 1 pages have a black circle in the top left of the border. An optional challenge page is included that can be copied on the back of the worksheet or given to fast finishers– this gives students an extension opportunity by asking them to create a new problem using a circle with new dimensions. They get to create their own drawing prompts and can then add those to their drawings. You may also have them share these challenge problems with the rest of class, which provides additional practice for everyone.

Last Minute Maths Reasoning Paper 2017 SATS Revision. Year 6 - KS2.

Last Minute Maths Reasoning Paper 2017 SATS Revision. Year 6 - KS2.

A flip chart and SATS style question paper based on both reasoning papers (paper 2 and paper 3) . Created by a year six teacher (89% maths at and above expected pass rate last year), maths coordinator and deputy head. Used on the afternoon before the 2016 maths SATS tests and updated in 2017. The flip chart allows the teacher to model the mathematics concept with a SATS style question and then gives the pupil the opportunity to use and apply what they have just seen. This is designed specifically for revision purposes as I have found my class sometimes fail to retain certain mathematical methods or struggle to use what they know to figure out what they don't. THIS IS AN ACTIVINSPIRE FLIP CHART

It then stretches the more able pupils to work with algebra. All tasks are differentiated either 3 or 4 levels. All tasks have solutions so pupils can self mark with some of the solutions handwritten so pupils can see a full worked solutions. This has been used with classes of varying ability and all have been able to access the lesson up to their desired ability. There are problem solving tasks, reasoning tasks ect to suit the new 9-1 curriculum. This has been taught to top set year 7 and set 3 year 10 who were fully engaged and liked the challenge of working with new formulae.
