Resources and ideas for mathematics, geometry and measures, shape and space, written by teachers to support teaching and learning

#### Angles KS2

There are about 17 (practical and fun) lesson activities, tasks or worksheets to cover the following 2014 objectives: Recognise angles as a property of shape or a description of a turn. Identify right angles, recognise that two right angles make a half-turn, three make three-quarters of a turn and four a complete turn; identify whether angles are greater than or less than a right angle. This is one of the children's favourite activities to help understand angles. Ideas for children of all abilities to have fun learning about angles.***Thank you for downloading. Please look for the large files (Flip -chart and PDF) which contain all the resources without the Paws & Clause watermark. ***Check out my other resources at - https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/jreadshaw

#### Coordinate Battleships Game (Differentiated)

A self-contained game to be played in pairs.Use to revise reading coordinates on a grid. Best played once coordinates have already been introduced, as a consolidating activity.Differentiated versions of the game within this pack, including use of the first quadrant only, as well as all four quadrants. You will also find instructions on how to play the game within your pack. Suitable for Years 4 and 5 (on one quadrant) and Year 6 and KS3 (on all four quadrants).

#### Plotting coordinates using up to four quadrants!

I have created this for a year 5 top set maths group. It is differentiated 3 ways, yellow being the less able, green able and pink more able. This links in very heavily with shape as I am teaching this following 3 weeks on shape, space and measure, so it will continue to embed their knowledge of quadrilaterals, types of triangles, angles and parallel and perpendicular lines. Hope this is useful! Have included photos of what it should look like once points have been plotted, hopefully I haven't made any silly mistakes! :-)

#### KS3 Circles-Rescue the princess-adventure game

The 5 sections are: parts of a circle, circumference, area, reverse questions: given circumference, find diameter and radius; given area, find radius and diameter. Go to my profile page to see the GCSE version including arc length and sector area and check out my other games.

#### Pentomino puzzles activity

#### Angles in a Polygon Revision lesson

This lesson is designed for my Key stage 4 classes. Through a series of worked examples the class revise how to find the number of sides for a regular polygon or the size of interior and exterior angles. Plus further problems. The lesson also contains a worksheet with solutions.

#### Angles in a polygon

This is a lesson which demonstrates to students the sum of the angles in a variety of polygons through the knowledge of the angles in a triangle. The lesson then looks at a method of finding the interior and exterior angles of regular polygons. This resource also contains a worksheet for either classwork or homework (answers to follow!)

#### 2d shapes Problem Solving and Reasoning Working In Greater Depth

This is a fun, engaging and creative lesson with shape. The lesson has been successfully used to apply knowledge of shapes in a year 2 setting. Children can begin to think of problems systematically. They think of the best way to start, that there is more than one answer, that they can use number doubles and counting on to support them. Children are encouraged to find different ways to make a 9 sided shape family. They need to be secure with properties of simple 2d shapes previously such as sides of regular shapes. This activity can also be used in year 1 with children working in greater depth to demonstrate reasoning with shape in the measures unit. Work can be differentiated by giving children regular or irregular shapes. Very stimulating activity for all learners.

#### 'Treasure Island' Coordindates & shape properties

Give each student a copy of the the Treasure Quest document, containing a set of 8 treasure quest coordinate questions the pupils have to solve. Also give them a copy of the island map, the treasure map document. Display the excel application via an interactive white board. If a student has solve treasure quest 3, say, they come to the board select the appropriate work sheet, enter the coordinate and either the treasure will appear on the map at their coordinate, or they will receive a message telling them to try again.

#### Symmetry - Differentiated Patterns

I used these worksheets in Year 4 and the children moved through them at their own pace during the lesson starting with the first sheet. The third activity is quite difficult (two examples in the picture) so even the most able might need to start with the second sheet first. The last sheet is just blank for the children to fill in for each other in pairs if they've blasted through the other three!

#### Themed coordinates worksheets (x2)

WWII themed coordinates worksheets for exploring and applying four quadrant coordinates. Group activity, aimed at high ability KS2 Yr5/6 group

#### 2d properties of shapes and sorting shapes

Suitable for KS1 primary Year 1 and Year 2 Mathematics New Curriculum - understanding properties of shape. In this exciting bundle of resources suitable for the shapes unit the children can name common 2d shapes and sort them into given criteria. Children working at greater depth to be able to sort into more than one criteria in a carol diagram e.g colour and number of sides. For low ability children - Identify shapes in the environment. Children working at greater depth should be encouraged to have a blank carol diagram to write their own criteria. They could be extended to create their own sorting diagram for others to use with a challenge e.g. put one shape in the wrong place. Other challenge could be to use criteria such as ;with right angles' or 'more than 2 lines of symmetry.' Prior learning of properties of shapes should be secure or can be secured using these resources.

#### Forming and Solving Equations from Shapes and Angle Problems RELAY

An activity aimed at foundation GCSE students or higher level KS3 students. Can be organised as an activity in many ways but designed to be run as a 'relay' activity where students may work collaboratively or in competition with each other. There are two sets of questions, an easier A set and a harder B set. #### KS2 and KS3 Maths Activity: Tesselation Puzzles

1. The first document is a word document with isometric paper. The grid in word has been adjusted in such a way as to allow lines and shapes to be snapped to the corners of the isometric paper. So you can effectively draw isometrically accurately in word. 2. The first page of the second document describes a tessellation problem and the second page shows the solution. 3. The first page of the third document describes another tesselation problem and the second page shows the solution.

#### Halving Numbers and Shapes

For use with KS1 children on halving numbers and shapes (probably best suited to Year 1)The halving numbers worksheet has two levels of difficulty. One where children simply solve halving questions up to 20. One the second (easier) sheet there is space for children to draw pictures into two circles (i.e. halve the number). The halving shapes worksheet where children have to split simple shapes in half and colour each halve. A challenge sheet with more complex shapes follows this. Please rate if you like this resource :-)
