Sequence Ratio Worksheet - Differentiated

Sequence Ratio Worksheet - Differentiated

This is a nice activity to introduce the idea of ratio, by using sequences. Suitable for KS2.I found it useful to use pieces of card (e.g. 1 yellow for every 2 blue) to visually demonstrate beforehand (using volunteers - each holding the correct ratio) and show how to record this into a table on the whiteboard as you go, before using this resource as the main activity. I also allowed children to use counters at their table to aid them whilst completing the worksheet, as this was very beneficial to some learners.

Non-Linear Direct Proportion

Non-Linear Direct Proportion

Students learn how to model non-linear direct proportion functions using formulae and graphs. Learning progresses from deriving the equation to manipulating it to calculate missing values.Differentiated Learning ObjectivesAll students should be able to calculate the constant of variation that models how two measurements are in direct proportion. Most students should be able to derive and use the formula that models how two measurements are in direct proportion. Some students should be able to model how two measurements are in nonlinear direct proportion using a formula and graph.Check out my blog at mr-mathematics.com for:* Fully planned and differentiated maths lessons for KS3 and GCSE grades 1 - 9.* Schemes of work based on pedagogy and teacher support.

GCSE Higher level Mathematics run around game

GCSE Higher level Mathematics run around game

This activity is aimed at Higher level students who are revising for their GCSE examination. Each round consists of four questions. Print the slides 8 to 13 on A4 paper and place one printed slide per table. (For a higher level set this may need printing more than once)Students are put into pairs (either by choice or teacher selection) and are given a copy of slide 14 and a few sheets of pieces of A4 paper. The pairs are designated a starting table and the timer (slide 2) is started. The students are then given 5 minutes to answer the four questions on that table. Once the five minutes is up the students move clockwise to the next table and start the next set of four questions and the timer of slide 3 is started. This continues until all students have completed the six tables worth of questions. The answering of the questions takes no more than 30 minutes. Students then remain at their final table, swap their answer sheet with the nearest table and the answers are produced. At this stage I go through the questions before revealing the answers. In this way the students have had a go at GCSE style Higher level questions and have also seen a demonstration as to how they should have been answered. Finally, students add up their score and the highest score get a prize!

Worksheet 1: Relies just on the first names of the children in the class, with no other knowledge required (e.g. number of vowels in the name)Worksheet 2: Also requires research or prior knowledge of the others in the class before successfully completing the worksheet. This worksheet can help children to discover the link between fractions and ratio.

Fluency in Number Work - No Calculator

Fluency in Number Work - No Calculator

The reformed GCSE Mathematics (9-1) curriculum demands from students a higher degree of fluency in number work. This worksheet is aimed at showing students a variety of skills to evaluate numerical expressions more effectively and to solve multi-step number work problems more fluently. This worksheet has a total of 100 questions (80 numerical expressions and 20 number problems), involving the four operations, fractions, decimal numbers, percentages, indices, surds, standard form, multiplication factors, proportion, ratio, percentage change, simple interest and compound interest. Most of these questions can be solved in different ways and students should try to pick methods which will reduce the risk of making mistakes. Perhaps the answers accompanying this worksheet do not always show the quickest method, but they have been written with the emphasis on accuracy, trying to show students how to get the answers without making calculation errors. This worksheet is excellent revision for all students sitting the non-calculator paper of the new GCSE Mathematics examination.
