KS2 Code Breaking - Find Missing Digits in Written Calculations using the Inverse Operation

A fully resourced lesson on finding the missing digit within addition and subtraction questions. This allows children to practise inverse operations and apply written methods in a fun and interactive way. After looking on the internet myself, I found that everything out there in this area was very dry, so I made this. The lesson is designed as a code breaking lesson, where children must solve the missing digit problems in order to save a class prized possession. A lesson plan, 8 differentiated worksheets, a letter from the villains for the starter and an answer sheet is included. The questions are differentiated and cover:- 2 digit by 2 digit addition- 2 digit by 2 digit subtraction- 3 digit by 3 digit addition- 3 digit by 3 digit subtraction- 4 digit by 4 digit addition- 4 digit by 4 digit subtraction- Decimal addition- Decimal subtractionThis gives you the flexibility to choose the appropriate level for your class, or differentiate for different groups within your class by assigning each group a different villain's lock to break.

There are 25 powerpoint slides to collect ample evidence. Can be used at the beginning of the year but essentially if you are getting moderated by your local authority.
