Peer Assessment, final product or model

Peer Assessment, final product or model

Description: This is a simple peer assessment task that allows KS3 pupils to assess a peer's final product or model that they have produced. It prompts them to identify something that has been done well, whilst also highlighting an area to target for improvement. Objective: Encourage pupils to create a balanced, critical view when evaluating a product. By promoting the evaluation of someone else's work, they are able to look at the product objectively without bias, particularly if the product they evalaute is not that of the person they sit next to. Assessment: It can be used to inform AoL and formally documented by a teacher, or used more readily in session by a teacher who can then recall common targets for improvement, discussing with Q&A how these could be achieved. Prior Knowledge: The criteria of the project, which will have been set by the classroom teacher or discussed in the form of a specification possibly. Expectations: Pupils should begin to create a balanced, structured argument about products in general. They should use their K&U along with their experiences to identify and set appropriate targets for themselves and their peers. Hints: These can be folded, hole punched and, with some string, tied to the product. To save on labour, the kids can do this, and it creates a simple kinaesthetic element to the evaluation. Another way to do this is to print them, cut them out and glue them together. Laminate them and the pupils can then complete them with water-based markers, which can easily be wiped off. This is more time-consuming, but saves time in the lesson and saves materials in the long run

Active Revision Folding Frenzy

A Revision activity designed to keep students focused on an active approach to their revision. The powerpoint leads pupils through this approach and I have included an example from my own subject in History. The key is that pupils focus on synthesising their knowledge and work out what the crucial points are in a topic and how the other knowledge relates to it.

How to Learn Anything - the 7 most effective tasks.

How to Learn Anything - the 7 most effective tasks.

This is a resource useful by anyone who wants to learn anything or who wants to help others to learn. Some time ago I came across a TEDx Blog by Krystian Aparta about an “Open Translation Project” where translators shared their secrets to mastering a foreign language. This got me to thinking about learning and what I call “Learning Intelligence” or “LQ”First, a bit about LQLQ is our ability to adapt our environment to meet our learning needs. This is just what these translators were doing – managing their learning environment to make learning easier and quicker. LQ consists of a set of skills, attitudes, attributes and behaviours (easy to remember “SAAB”) we can develop to help us learn. What the translators were doing is a great example of using LQ to learn and you can use this approach to learn anything. They are quite simple things to do but bring huge benefits to learningSee what you think, I have created a graphic to showcase the 7 taks of how to learn anything. To go with the poster is a more detailed description of the tasks and you can find that here: http://wp.me/p2LphS-sT

NPQSL Final Combined Task - completed 2016 - under new framework

NPQSL Final Combined Task - completed 2016 - under new framework

This assignment includes my: blood, sweat and tears! This is my NPQSL assignment and is focused on improving writing in a primary school. I really wish I'd had an NPQSL example assignment to look at while I was writing mine as it would have stopped me second guessing myself. However, I passed with flying colours and am now offering mine to you to make the process much easier. I uploaded the assignment on 8.2.16 and received feedback on 29.3.16. Feedback (as shown on first page) awarded all of the 9 competencies as passed at the required level. The written feedback was excellent and only includes strengths, no areas for development. I have deleted several appendices because they included photographic evidence of specific events/individuals. I would recommend that you consider doing this also as visuals are always a nice break from a lengthy piece of text. However, I have kept my action plan and report to the Headteacher in the appendices as I feel these are important for your reference. My resources always take me a lot of time and effort to create so I hope that they help to save you some precious time - please do review my resources. Thank you!A section from my written feedback:'Strengths were demonstrated in Delivering continuous improvement as your priorities for improvement were clearly linked to your vision for the project. You regularly reviewed progress and reflected on actions and achievements of pupils in writing. The Action plan and strategies were fully implemented and you skilfully monitored planning, teaching, learning and assessment data. Throughout the project you remained solution-focused. In terms of Modelling excellence in leadership of teaching and learning you demonstratedexcellent leadership of teaching and learning. You set up and embedded the writing initiatives and adapted the teaching and learning approaches to suit the needs of pupils. It is evident that you have high expectations, model excellence and vision and have shared ideas and practice very effectively. Staff have been provided with the clarity they need in order to feel empowered and accountable in their role. Strengths were demonstrated in Learning focus as you set up and embedded the writing initiative and applied theory and knowledge of learning to improve outcomes for pupils. It is evident that you are committed to learning and achieving excellence and led valuable inset for staff to improve their subject knowledge in grammar, planning and writing. '

'Rapid Progress' Class Activity by @TeacherToolkit

'Rapid Progress' Class Activity by @TeacherToolkit

This can be modified to suit any subject and topic. I do NOT claim this resource to be a new idea; just a strategy that works very well in the classroom that is worth sharing. This idea is perfect for sharing success criteria; and also demonstrating progress over a number of lessons. The topic can be used as a starter or plenary and feed into a main activity - using the same process - for students applying success criteria for classwork; coursework and exams over and over again. Supported with a blog-post weblink.

Growth Mindset. Divergent Thinking Questions

Growth Mindset. Divergent Thinking Questions

Students and adults are often led to believe that there is only one right answer to the question. This doesn’t have to be the case though and it is really useful for students to be reminded of this, encouraging them to keep an open mind and explore possibilities. This way of thinking is referred to as divergent thinking and it goes hand in hand with creativity. This resource provides questions that encourage students to problem solve and consider lots of answers to questions that don’t have just one right answer. Each question is presented on an individual page so that they can be printed out and students can jot down ideas, scribble notes and even draw diagrams if they feel like it.
