Weather: German Vocabulary Card Sort

Weather: German Vocabulary Card Sort

This is a card sort to help students learn words related to weather (40 words in total). This would be a useful task with younger groups or low ability groups. There are three separate files, depending on how you want to present the task. - The 'teacher copy' shows a grid with all items already matched. - The 'student version' is a random layout, print this out and give to students. They can then cut out the items and match them, or stick them into their workbooks. - The 'quick cut' is designed so that you can produce 10 packs of cards quickly and easily using a guillotine. Each page has the same card 10 times over. This allows you to remove words that may not be suitable or needed.

German: Weather, Countries and Holidays: revision activities and games

German: Weather, Countries and Holidays: revision activities and games

This are the activities from a lesson I taught on revising the names of countries, weather phrases and holidays. The powerpoint is a brief revision outline and includes a reminder about the correct use of prepositions as well as a class points game. Students generally love this game: divide the class into two or three teams and each team takes a turn in giving a weather phrase in German. They then clink on the symbol which disappears to reveal the points behind it. This can be differentiated (e.g. double the points if a whole sentence / including the name of a country / different tense is used). Also a match up activity to revise weather phrases - two sets of translations included as I had two students up at the board playing against each other - first to match correctly. The large names of the countries on the next document can be printed onto coloured card or laminated and then students come to the board and use bluetak to stick the name on to the correct country - display the blank outline map which is contained on the powerpoint. Alternatively print the blank map for students to label in German. There is also a word loop which can be used a number of ways. One way is simply to print and cut out for each student / pair / group to put together (like dominoes, cut along each row so each domino has a German and English phrase which don't match). Students will then end up with a circle of 'dominoes' with each German phrase next to the correct English translation. Can also be used as a word loop - give each student a domino and they read out the German. The student who has the English translation has to then read out the English. They then read their German phrase and it continues until back to the beginning. Great for listening and attention skills!

die Unterkunft- accommodation STIMMT 2/ ECHO 2

die Unterkunft- accommodation STIMMT 2/ ECHO 2

Pupils will explore vocab related to accommodation firstly by repetition, then with some funny activities aimed at using the vocab in context and using maximum T.L. (ex: wo kann man das Etagenbett finden? --> In einer Jugendherberge etc...). Then it puts the vocab in relation to the past tense and all of this leads to a differentiated translation group race where pupils use prior knowledge of set past tense phrases (ex: ich bin nach Spanien gefahren, das Wetter war warm, Ich habe Fussball gespielt etc...). This can be made into a competition between groups, kids like it!
