Eurovision 2018 MFL SPANISH

Eurovision 2018 MFL SPANISH

Resources that can be used for a lesson or two on Eurovision for a Spanish class. Would work particularly well with Y9 and GCSE to get them using more interesting opinions but can be adapted for any year really. It’s good to use for Media topic (Music) and for writing with opinions. I have used this resource many times over the last few years and just changed it each year to make it up to date, it has always gone down really well with students! Resources include: Powerpoint Sweepstake of countries to cut out* Score cards for the semi finals *(will add the Final scorecard when final contestants are announced) Worksheet that includes a countries match up English to Spanish and a score card that pupils can write their votes on and choose an adjective to describe each song. PRIMARY SPANISH FACTS ACTIVITIES 1

PRIMARY SPANISH FACTS ACTIVITIES 1

PERFECT FOR INTRODUCING AND EXPLORING THE SPANISH-SPEAKING WORLD! - 20 FASCINATING FACTS CARDS, 28 CHALLENGE CARDS, DIFFERENTIATED WRITING/COMPREHENSION ACTIVITIES AND WHOLE-GROUP PRESENTATION / DISCUSSION ACTIVITY ABOUT ALL THINGS SPANISH! This resource really does help to create a lively language learning environment, and offer a popular alternative to more traditional, teacher-led ’information about Spain’ lessons. Children can develop their knowledge of SPAIN AND SPANISH - and through guided whole-group discussion - their home/host country too, in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, in part independently of the teacher. There is a bonus multi-focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing and spelling, and is a great way of aligning language learning with developing literacy skills in English. This resource comprises the following: 20 FACTS CARDS - there are four facts in each of the following five topic groups: GEOGRAPHY, COUNTRY, LANDMARKS, LANGUAGE and FOOD. There are four cards per A4 sheet, making them the perfect size for young learners. The language on each of the cards ranges from fairly basic to more advanced, which challenges and enhances children’s English skills. WRITING/COMPREHENSION CHALLENGE 1 - there are 2 options: either 2 or 4 fact recording boxes per A4 page. Children read their selected facts, and copy the information in the boxes. Encourage children to be as accurate as possible with their spelling and punctuation, to pay particular attention to the spelling and accents of the SPANISH words that are included, and of course to make sure they are recording the facts in their best handwriting. WRITING/COMPREHENSION CHALLENGE 2 - there are also 2 options: 2 or 4 fact recording boxes in this challenge level. However, there is a more open-ended task: responding to the question “What did you learn?”. This requires children to read their fact card, process the information, and then recreate it in their own words, describing the fact in the context of what they have learned. 28 DIFFERENTIATED COMPREHENSION CHALLENGE CARDS, with answer sheet WHOLE-GROUP PRESENTATION/DISCUSSION ACTIVITY, with every fact included in the presentation resource - I’ve found this a really useful means of encouraging and stimulating classroom discussion. Children can reflect on what they already know about SPAIN, and share it with their peers. Use the facts themselves to prompt discussion about the home/host country, eg “What is our capital city? Is it also our largest city?”, which really does create a successful cross-curricular learning environment. This pack comprises 6 non-editable files in a zipped format. Please read the TERMS OF USE carefully - the pack is copyright, and for single-teacher/purchaser use only. ¡MUCHAS GRACIAS Y BUEN VIAJE!

El Súper Quiz Español (End of term Spanish quiz) (UPDATED WITH POWERPOINT VERSION)

El Súper Quiz Español (End of term Spanish quiz) (UPDATED WITH POWERPOINT VERSION)

End of term quiz for Spanish younger students. It consists of 10 rounds (90 questions altogether). Each slide of the presentation contains one question and some visual clues to help students answer. The quiz is based mainly on general knowledge of Spain and Spanish culture, although some test the students' knowledge of Spanish. 34 of the questions are based on a short video or music clip, which opens when the count-down animated icon is clicked. They can also be downloaded an played manually if the links don't work. The ten rounds are Music, Art, Sports, Maths, Geography, TV, Food and Drink, People, I love Spanish and A Bit of Everything. I have also included the answers to the questions and an answer sheet. Update: I have now included a PowerPoint version of the main file, converted from the original Notebook file. I recommend whenever possible to use the original version, as the file conversion has changed the layout of some slides and some features work less effectively on Power Point.

Spanish Assembly or Class Play

Spanish Assembly or Class Play

Spanish Class Play or Assembly Cast of 30, duration 10-15 mins. This class play on Spain is one of a set Sue Russell has written on different countries (Great Britain, England, Scotland, Wales, Holland, Australia, France, Spain, Malta, India, Africa) It celebrates all things Spanish and is a tribute to the country - its people and culture, as celebrated in Hispanic Heritage Month Sept – October, starring a rather 'full of himself' Christopher Columbus and some seriously crazy Pamplona bull runners! Written for 7 – 11 year olds. Another script is available for the lower age range of 5 – 7. This latter is another class play on Great Explorers, key starring roles going to Christopher Columbus and Neil Armstrong. Available off TES and www.plays-r-ussell.com (I have just updated this script - to include more uptodate information e.g. on arrival of Zinedine Zidane as Real Madrid's coach!) (Child 17 brings on supper of cheese, served on bread) Child 17: Supper! Cena. This is the last meal of the day and is a light meal. I think you’ll enjoy this sheep’s cheese and bread. (Narrator eats, then Child 17 clears away) Narrator: Well! That was certainly the fastest three meals I’ve ever had in my life! (Enter Child 18 with bunch of grapes) Child 18: Good practice for New Year’s Eve – when you need to eat 12 grapes in 12 seconds! Narrator: And why would I want to do that? Child 18: If you want good luck for the next year. Narrator: What a strange custom! Child 18: But it’s a country’s special traditions that keep it alive! (Enter Child 19 – 23 in national costume, plus sheep: Child 24 & 25) Narrator: (Gasping) Wow! Just look at these national costumes! Child 19: In Valencia we wear long silk dresses and shawls worn over our shoulders Child 20: And short dark jackets and large-brimmed black hats for us men! Music 3 – Flamenco music (Child 21 flamencos across the stage) Child 21: How do you like my dress? Andalucian style? Narrator: Ah! Beautiful! Music 4 – Bagpipes music (Everyone covers their ears; Narrator walks over and signals to Bagpipe player, Child 22, to stop) Child 22: The finest music from Galicia! Narrator: If you say so! (Sound of loud bleating from the sheep) Narrator: (To Shepherd, Child 23) And you sir? Child 23: A shepherd, from the Basque country, looking after his sheep. (Sheep start ‘jostling/nudging’ Flamenco dancer who does her best to fend off their attentions) Narrator: (To Shepherd) Er, maybe time to herd them up?

Spanish Sub Plans: Famous Works of Art

Spanish Sub Plans: Famous Works of Art

These Spanish sub plans can be carried out by any sub while you are out of the classroom. Even better, you won't have to feel guilty that your students aren't learning while you are gone! This set includes 5 full classes of art/culture lessons that are ready to print & go, require no technology, do not require the sub to produce any Spanish, and can be differentiated for any level of Spanish class. Each lesson walks students through the interpretation of a famous work of art by artists Pablo Picasso, Diego Rivera, Joan Miró, Frida Kahlo, and Fernando Botero. Students will work step by step to interpret the art through a series of brainstorming, sorting and categorizing activities. Once they have recorded their own interpretation of the art, they will read a short excerpt that relates the piece of art to something cultural or historical from real life. They will then be asked to think about the art in that new context as they answer some thought provoking questions. Works of Art included in this lesson: -"Guernica" by Pablo Picasso -"Dream of a Sunday Afternoon at Alameda Park" by Diego Rivera -"Tree of Hope, Remain Strong" by Frida Kahlo -"Carnival of Harlequin" by Joan Miró -"Guerilla de Eliseo Velasquez" by Fernando Botero
