Taize Service Bundle

Taize Service Bundle

This an order of service in the style of Taize suitable for a longer assembly at primary or secondary school. This bundle includes a Microsoft Publisher version of the order of service as well as a very clear PDF format version. Additionally, there are copies of the prayer slips and alternative readings for slightly older students, both in Word format. The preparation for the service will vary, but there are two slots for students to perform relevant music if need be (alternatives are suggested). It is recommended for health and safety reasons that battery candles are used rather than candles with collars, if used in an assembly context. Icons drawn or designed by students could decorate the sacred space as well as the use of light and religious artifacts. It is also recommended that the chants (short and easy to learn) are rehearsed either in music or R.E. lessons as well as the appointment of a Cantor, which could be a good senior student with good vocal skills or an adult.

End of term RE

End of term RE

A fun and creative RE project lesson for students in the last week of term. Could be used for activities week in Humanities or just as a reward lesson the last time you see your class for the summer. Very easy to set up - you will just need a few balloons, string, sellotape, cereal packets, felt tips and a any other boxes/construction materials you can find (just things that would usually be thrown in the recycling). The students work in small groups to research and recreate a famous religious landmark (info sheets and clip tasks included - all instructions on Powerpoint). The lesson can last as long as you want it to, and I gave prizes of sweets at the end for the best one - but that’s optional! My students really enjoyed it and we took pictures at the end for the school website. Hopefully yours will love it too. I’m going to be adding lots more free RE lessons over the coming months. Follow me to see when they’re uploaded! :)

NATRE Spirited Arts RE lessons 2018

NATRE Spirited Arts RE lessons 2018

This is a set of 7 lessons, 8+ if you include the lesson for students to begin developing their piece of art work, to get students thinking about some of the NATRE Spirited Arts 2018 Themes. All lessons have at least one learning objective and some outcomes based on mastery skill levels/bands. There are 2 lessons on the ‘Holy Spaces’ theme, these are the first two within the PowerPoint. The first is pilgrimage and considering how and why places of pilgrimage are holy spaces then the second is a church lesson, why is this a holy space for Christians, with the opportunity for students to design their own church/holy space. The second theme is the ‘Pray! (Reflect! Meditate!)’ theme, there are 3 lessons on this theme. The first is a lesson on can songs be prayers linking to Tupac Ghetto Gospel, the second is using Bruce Almighty and the prayer focus within this film, what would happen if everyone got everything they wanted etc. The third is on Buddhist meditation to give a bit of religious varity and to show that different religions pray in different ways and if you have spare material students can create their own prayer flag. The third theme is the theme of ‘Faith and Doubt’, there are 2 lessons on this, an introduction to philosophy and how big questions can lead to doubt within religion and then an evil and suffering lesson.

St Brigid's Day Colouring Book

St Brigid's Day Colouring Book

St. Brigid’s Day Colouring Book I made this resource for Feb 1st St. Birgid's Day but can equally be used when teaching about Ireland's patron saint or just as an activity in Religious Studies. The resource contains nine images of the iconic saint. Taken from stained glass windows and converted to line drawings. Feedback from a user has mentioned that there was some blur and scored me a feedback of 3.8 out of 4 on TpT. I hope it is a good starter or activity for your class. I have included the file in both Word and a PDF version.

10 x Day of The Dead IDEA Analysers Keyword Starter Settler Wordsearch Art RE PSHE Cover

10 x Day of The Dead IDEA Analysers Keyword Starter Settler Wordsearch Art RE PSHE Cover

10 starter-style I-D-E-A (Identify, Describe, Explain, Analyse) starters covering 10 topics and themes. Students complete the ones they are comfortable with (eg lower ability complete 'Identify' where they simply can list their thoughts, higher ability complete 'Explain' and 'Analyse' where more detail and sentences can be used. Some of the next one can then be completed based on what they thought, to push them a little further. Themes are: 1/2. Keywords 1&2 3. Art 4. Makeup 5. Beliefs 6. Skull Art 7. Danse Macabre 8. Food and Drink 9. Food Ideas 10. Origins There's actually more than 10 altogether on the ten themes as some have more than one sheet, enough to print out for a whole class and each student to have a different one to aid in differentiation as some are easier to generate words from than others. Also included is a powerpoint with images related to Day of The Dead for printing as handouts/inspiration. Powerpoint so can be used on the board or printed as a worksheet. Includes space for students to explain the keywords and suggested extension activities. Can take 10 minutes or an hour, depending on which activities the students complete. Ideal for the start of a lesson, a quick filler, a homework, part of a cover lesson or as a plenary on the board with a whiteboard pen. The idea behind these is to get students to become more literate and think independently about the words that could be used to describe the topic being taught. The repetition of the word over and over as they look for the word is useful in remembering the terms. Often the students will pick up on things that you would not normally expect!

Buddhist Art lessons 5 and 6. Revise and Assess.

Buddhist Art lessons 5 and 6. Revise and Assess.

Having studied 3 Asanas and the Bhava Chakra students review and revise their learning. The revision lesson covers the main points and gives them a chance to clarify any misunderstandings. I was impressed with how much students could remember- including all twelve nidanas. The assessment is based on the Edexcel GCSE and I have included our grade boundaries as well. The assessment lesson does contain a powerpoint- I use the revision lesson again at the start of the assessment to quickly remind them of key points. My Year 9 has 40 minutes to complete the whole assessment. All students were able to access it. My high prior attainers did well with the part D question.
