(German Language) Nibelungenlied - Shorted Story and Resources

(German Language) Nibelungenlied - Shorted Story and Resources

This is a shortened form of the famous legend of the Nibelungs of Germany. The story is shortened into 5 sections for students to read and have a vocabulary presentation for each section. I’ve also made a background knowledge reading and research piece to help students understand more of the historical background of the piece. I’ve also included a video project guide and final test. Would take about 25 minutes a day for about 7 days or you could chunk it into a longer period of time. I like to break it up. Also…there is a movie you can buy that is pretty good and fun to watch afterwards! The story is fun and historically interesting. Viel Spass!

Joyeux Noel (movie) Worksheet -- with answer sheet

Joyeux Noel (movie) Worksheet -- with answer sheet

Joyeux Noel is one of the greatest movies ever made, and I like to show it just before introducing a U.S. History segment on World War One. My wife, a French teacher, also shows it in her French classes. This worksheet has a variety of content-based questions requiring 1-3 sentence answers, along with a few that require outside research on the topics of international law and other issues. The questions are designed for a U.S. history class, but can be adapted for the cultural aspects of a French or German language class. Questions preceded with a “►” can be used as DBQs for longer 5x5 essays. – Thomas R. Eddlem

Musik zum Thema Grammatik für Fortgeschrittene SET 1

Musik zum Thema Grammatik für Fortgeschrittene SET 1

Enrich instruction by using my Musik zum Thema Grammatik für Fortgeschrittene sets. Have upper level students at A.2 level listen to authentic songs and then follow a set of text codes to analyze 5 of the grammatical structures used within the lryics. Students get to listen, analyze, build vocabulary and see their grammatical knowledge grow. In my classroom I introduce the song to the class and let them listen to it. Then I have them work on the grammatical analysis, following the text codes. Many of the concepts are familiar to them and some are new. When they come across new concepts I encourage them to look online to try and determine more information about that concept. This empowers them to use the web for a research purpose. The analysis worksheet included asks students to list the coded word/s, identify their grammatical name and give an additional example of the grammatical topic not listed in the song. This forces them to extend beyond what is just listed in the song and helps them to grow their grammatical competence. Each set has 3 German songs by recent artists of various genres. The sets include a PowerPoint slide show that includes the songs embedded, a song analysis worksheet, and the song lyrics with various grammatical concepts coded. The PowerPoint is editable for customization and I also provide the set in PDF form to share with students as well. Songs in this set: Set 1: Du bist die Sonne - Die Drogen (modals, accusative pronouns, coordinating conjunctions, accusative prepositions, da-compound) Erkläre mir die Liebe - Philipp Poisel (interrogatives, accusative pronouns, accusative prepositions, dative pronouns, dative prepositions) Krieger des Lichts- Silbermond (subordinating conjunctions, accusative pronouns, genitive, imperative, infinitive construction) More Song Sets Coming Soon in My Store! GOODBYE LENIN film project adapted to new GCSE 2018 FILMKRITIK FILM REVIEW

GOODBYE LENIN film project adapted to new GCSE 2018 FILMKRITIK FILM REVIEW

This contains a whole film project about "Goodbye Lenin" which I used for my year 10 groups over 2 weeks (7 lessons). We did it at the end of "Zeit fuer Freizeit" unit from the Stimmt 9-1 Higher textbook to expose pupils to an authentic German film full of culture. In the Power Point you have an outline of how I structured the lessons + activities from the booklet. I created also a booklet for pupils with all activities around the film. Over the course of the lessons pupils will explore the historical East vs West Germany division, the concepts of Wende and Ostalgie and loads of activities on the film. The year 10s loved the whole project and motivation was high since they are a very clever group. At the same time they loved doing something which is usually required at A-level. At the end of the PPT and the booklet you also find the questions for the speaking assessment and a writing assessment task in the new GCSE style! It worked so well!

If done in class this project would take about 3- 50 minute class periods. The students are travel agents in the city of Berlin and they need to access the web ( or have access to print outs of the web info) to complete 4 activities: 1. Research 6 sites in the city of Berlin 2. Use googlemaps.de to give directions to lost tourists 3. Record themselves giving the directions using the online free recorder Vocaroo.com 4. Record themselves giving a sales pitch to tourists and why they should visit Berlin

Song Lyrics Analysis Worksheet

Worksheet in English. The link to the monthly top 10 hits in German from Germany is listed in the directions and provided by the Goethe Institute. So, you don't have to list hunt or create playlists! Just assign this once a month! I usually do it in the middle of the month to make sure the list has been updated ;) My students love having the ability to choose the songs they want to listen to. Students can learn a lot from listening to authentic songs! Songs also tie to their emotions and keep them interested in learning the language. This sheet I generally assign as homework or schedule in the computer lab. I encourage kids to check out other songs by artists they like and follow up with questions like: What did you download? What videos did you like? Did you subscribe to anyone?
