Listening Comprehension - Selma (plus oral presentation project)

Listening Comprehension - Selma (plus oral presentation project)

*** answer key included A listening comprehension for the movie Selma. This evaluation contains a short-answer section for 20 points (identify the characters and vocabulary), a complete the dialogue section (20 points) and a long-answer section for 30 points (17 questions). I also included a writing journal section which can be completed in class or at home. For the writing journal, students are asked to select and answer two of the proposed questions. You will also find an oral presentation project to get the students to acquire additional knowledge about the U.S. Civil Rights Movement. This way the movie becomes an excellent pre-activity to a broader learning opportunity for students. Note: My personal way of using the oral presentation project is that I get students in pairs to work on the project and present to the rest of the class. I ask students to take notes because afterwards I give them a quiz on everything which was presented… not necessarily for a final “official” grade but a final “unofficial” assessment of who has acquired the most knowledge… students love the challenge of trying to beat their classmates and no stress about it showing up on their report card… I usually give a few bonus points to my first three pairs who got the most correct answers on the final quiz.

Why Facebook is the Future - Reading/Listening Comprehension

Why Facebook is the Future - Reading/Listening Comprehension

An authentic reading material based on an article taken from "Time." The article is about the history of the most popular social network - Facebook. You can make it both reading and listening (if you read it out to your students, or record yourself, which I did - that was fun experience). The comprehension part contains multiple-choice, T/F questions, open-ended questions and vocabulary part.

Practice exam paper - Paper 2 AQA GCSE English Language , War Speeches

This resource is a complete lesson with a complete mock exam for Paper 2 of the AQA English Language exam and enough material to fill a 3 hour session. It is designed to be a informal and supportive lesson to help students become more comfortable and confident in the lead up to mock and real exams, although it can be altered to be presented in a way which suits the individual teachers style or to be more formal in delivery. Based around two war speeches made by Winston Churchill and Chief Joseph this lesson examines to two sides of war made by two different war leaders from different eras, it allows the student to work in teams and as individuals with bite sized activities which help the student to focus and develop ideas around the materials, supporting the less able in the class to get up to speed but also allowing your more able to push further and develop insightful answers. As the theme is war, this lesson also allows room for embedding of deeper social issues. Hope it helps

The World News Crossword (November 12th, 2017)

The World News Crossword (November 12th, 2017)

The World News Crossword (November 12th, 2017) is a one-page crossword based on the events of last week's news. The resource includes three more one-page crosswords - on New Zealand, Australia, and Canada. Answers are included. The World News Crossword (November 12th, 2017) is an ideal lesson activity in home room, PSHE, Social Studies, Geography, Economics and SEN lessons. Crosswords challenge students' logic and problem solving skills, research skills, and require neat handwriting. They work well as small group activities or even as homework activities. In this week's puzzle... North Korea’s leader called the US president ‘old’, and so the US president called North Korea’s leader ‘short and fat’. An Australian jockey punched his horse before a race. Japan’s prime minister fell backwards into a bunker while playing golf, an Australian hit a double century in cricket and New Zealand beat France in rugby. And Lewis Hamilton crashed his Mercedes. And Saudi Arabian women will soon be allowed into sports stadiums. Hyderabad banned begging. Uttar Pradesh told Muslim schools to teach English, maths, and science. And in Delhi, a health emergency was declared because of smog. A rocket launch was delayed because a little plane strayed into its air space. And Walt Disney announced three more Star Wars movies will be made. An escaped lynx was killed and a python was found in a drunk German man’s trousers. And zoo staff in Colombia performed root canal surgery on an African elephant.
