Scrúdú Béal - Irish Oral Junior / Leaving Certificate (GCSE)

Scrúdú Béal - Irish Oral Junior / Leaving Certificate (GCSE)

This is a list of questions I have compiled for both my Junior & Leaving Certificate students for the Oral Exam. As an examiner I have used these questions and it helps focus students learning for their exam. At the beginning is a list of phrases they can use to increase their fluency levels, sound more fluent and natural in their speech, all while thinking of an answer! It is very much geared towards Leaving Cert Ordinary level but I have also asked all to Higher Level students as well! There is over 100 basic questions that cover a wide range of topics.

Oíche Shamhna Halloween Irish

Oíche Shamhna Halloween Irish

I use this resource with all my Junior Cert / Cycle classes (U.K. Year 7 - 9) It contains a PowerPoint that starts with a poem about Oíche Shamhna (Halloween) to set the mood. The poem is on the PowerPoint and also on a word document to hand to students. From here the lesson contains all the necessary vocabulary to speak about Oíche Shamhna (Halloween) as Gaeilge. After you have gone through the PowerPoint, there is a word search and also a crossword for students to complete. This is definitely one of my favourite lessons to teach and students love and engage with it!

An Nollag - Display & Activity

An Nollag - Display & Activity

This resource contains all the necessary displays for your Irish classroom this Christmas. I use these as a game first to introduce the vocabulary to my students. They are placed around my room and students are given a list of Christmas vocabulary in English. They then have to find the Irish equivalent. It's nice to watch students discover the vocabulary themselves as opposed to looking at a PowerPoint and writing everything down in a vocabulary book. Once the lesson is finished they can go onto a display board. I've attached the .pdf for easy printing.

An Nollaig - Activities as Gaeilge (In Irish)

An Nollaig - Activities as Gaeilge (In Irish)

This resource contains three resources for a lesson in Irish. The first is a Bingo game, using Christmas vocabulary (See my display resource for that vocabulary) The second is a puzzle where students need to orientate themselves through a puzzle. This can be done using directions. (One person is blind folded and they must direct their partner around the puzzle) Or this resource can be used as a simple starter. The third resource is a word search. Each activity focuses oral skills and new vocabulary. It's a lovely way to finish the term off and also a way to keep students engaged in their final lesson.
