This resource consists of a booklet with ninety photo cards covering in a lot of detail all three themes of the new Spanish GCSE course: Identity and culture (40 cards), Local, national, international and global areas of interest (24 cards) and Current and future study and employment ( 26 cards). Each of the cards contains five foundation and five higher questions (colour-coded, using red for foundation and blue for higher), the firsts of which is always “¿Qué hay en la foto?”. In the higher set, all three time frames are covered, with one of the first three questions requiring the use of a tense other than the present and one of the final two questions requiring references to the other time frame. El trabajo Find Someone Who Can worksheet activity

El trabajo Find Someone Who Can worksheet activity

This is another Find Someone Who Can activity, so it needs to be a little interactive. If you don’t use them, students have a set amount of time to get the answers from their peers. They can’t rely on the same person more than a given number of times (your choice as to the number) and they cannot rely on themselves in the same way. The aim is to get students of differing abilities to circulate, to share knowledge, and to create little opportunities for less confident students to ask why answers are they way they are. The vocabulary is a little stretching, but it works very well and gives every student an opportunity to access the kind of vocabulary they need to excel. It’s up to you how you would prefer to check the answers. Sometimes I mark the sheets, sometimes I go through each question on the white board with the entire class, and other times I display the answers for students to check and correct themselves. Sometimes, if students are asked to check and correct, they don’t always have the same eye for detail as I’d have liked, so I make sure my students know that I look out for that when I mark their books.

School rules worksheet in Spanish

School rules worksheet in Spanish

The aim of the lesson is work out the structure of mandatory phrases like ‘se debe’ and ‘hay que’, and also that they are always followed by the infinitive. The differentiation can come from how the first stage of the worksheet is used. With lower ability groups, I’ve asked them to draw a symbol or sign to show the meaning of the phrase in the large boxes on the first page. With more able students, they can simply translate. If weaker students are to use this exercise, I’ve also picked out some of the key words on the first page, put them on the whiteboard as a starter and got students to look them up in a dictionary so that there is a clear word bank for those students to refer to later.

KS3/GCSE Spanish-MAT-La serpiente del habla (Jobs)-independent Speaking/Writing (differentiated)

KS3/GCSE Spanish-MAT-La serpiente del habla (Jobs)-independent Speaking/Writing (differentiated)

This is a differentiated Speaking / Writing exercise that I tend to use every half-term to encourage spontaneous speaking / writing. It is a variation of a trap door exercise that can be adapted for every topic as only topic specific vocabulary changes (not connectives / frequencies / opinions). This particular mat is to speak / write on the topic of (Future) Jobs / Employment plans. Enjoy!
