Pablo Neruda - A selection of poetry studies

This collection of documents make up a unit of work exploring Neruda’s poetry from a sociopolitical perspective. I put this together to teach part of the Cambridge Pre-U specification for Paper 4, Topics and Texts, as part of the topic “Justicia y Opresión en América Latina”. The basis of our unit of work was to explore Neruda’s politics and how this affected his life and works. He is referred to as the “Poet of the People”, and we took this as our starting point. Like Fray Bartolomé, he used his influence to speak on behalf of those with no voice. The poetry explores a huge part of Latin American history, from Incan civilization to the 1960s. Taken as a whole, the collection shows that much still has to be done to improve social justice. The second part of this unit was a study of the film También la lluvia, showing similar themes of exploitation and injustice.

Claim the parcel translation game Activity for revising different verb tenses and topics from new GCSE AQA books. You have a table with different verbs tenses/sentences and project it on your interactive whiteboard/wall. In groups of 2 (max 3) they write the answer in Spanish to one of the parcels/boxes on their mini white boards, come to you at the front of the class (you check) and if they have the answer correct they can claim the parcel/box. You write their names/team name on a post it notes and stick it over the parcel/box on the interactive whiteboard. Then, no one can do this parcel/box anymore.
