The Witches - by Roald Dahl - Reading Comprehension

This Reading Comprehension worksheet is suitable for higher elementary to proficient ESL learners or native English speakers. The text is a summary/ short story based on Roald Dahl's "The Witches". Create a Monster Paper Bag Puppets

Let the students design their own Hallowe'en Monster! What is included: - 1 head shape - 2 body shapes - 4 options for eyes - 4 options for eyes / nose - 3 options for mouths - hair plus 2 antennae - 2 simple writing activities have been prepared which can be placed on the back of the monster (grade 1 or 2 or 3) JK and K can just make the paper bag puppets and not do the writing activities. All the students have to do is design the head: add eyes, mouth, hair, antennae, nose and then choose a body .... color, glue and the monster is created. The fun part will be to see how many variations will be created within your class! Students can add things to the body of their monster as they see fit! Have created these so that something from each monster will hang over the base of the paper bag. - please look at the preview What you need: - paper, scissors, glue - brown paper bags (I bought mine in Michigan USA at a dollar store. They come 40 in a bag for $1.) Size listed on bag: 5 1/8 x 3 1/8 x 10 5/8 inches or 13 x 7.9 x 27 cm If your bag is a different size then just adjust your photocopying. Always make sure you download and save the project before printing! Sometimes customers just right click on the preview of a download and things don't print properly!

This resource is a comprehension activity for year 2. It is based on the KS1 SATs reading paper and includes 3 differentiated levels. The booklet tells part of the Christmas story, when the shepherds are visited by angels and decide to travel to Bethlehem to meet Jesus. It could be used on its own, or with the three other parts of the story, available on my shop. There are a range of 'what,' 'how,' 'where' and 'who' questions, some multiple choice tick questions and some that require more detailed answers. The activity is also laid out in a similar way to the SATs booklets, with four pages of pictures and short written extracts to read and 2-3 questions per page.
