The Children's Plan One Year On: a progress report is written and produced by the DCSF. Why is it important to have good RE?

Why is it important to have good RE?

The first file here tells the story of Jim Jones and his Temple which ended up in Guyana, with over 900 people dead. The second file is an excellent article about why RE is important. Next, The Nature of Love, can be used as a GCSE/post 16 revision aid. I include it here as it relates to what I have written about engaging students in the 4th file. The fourth file is an example of the way that good RE really can make a difference. Happy Christmas everyone.

Peace on Earth - practical strategies

Peace on Earth - practical strategies

This is a resource for all my great colleagues - to explore practical strategies that we can use to make our lives stronger and more peaceful. The idea behind this is that if we can become spiritually stronger and more peaceful that will impact on our students, classes, colleagues and schools - to say nothing of its effect on our families and our own happiness. So I am asking you all to send me your own favourite 'weapons for peace' which we all can share and benefit from. As always please give feedback and a rating.

Reports / Articles relating to RE and the Eng Bacc

Reports / Articles relating to RE and the Eng Bacc

Here are some reports and articles which relate to the danger RE is facing. This is relevant to everyone who has a voice in managing a school or planning the curriculum. If RE is undermined then the quality of spiritual, moral, social and cultural education is under threat. Without good RE, our whole society becomes more intolerant, prejudiced, divided and dangerous. RE must keep its position as a core Humanities subject with Geography and History. We all need to work together to defend the position of RE. Contact me (PM) if you have related articles/reports and I will attach them.

Artsmark

Artsmark

Artsmark is back with a simpler, quicker and more supportive online application process. What is involved? Schools complete a two-part online application which provides an overall picture of their arts education provision and evidence about the outcomes and impact on their pupils. It’s not just beneficial for the pupils; it can raise a school’s profile, reassure parents and carers that arts provision is a priority, and reward teachers and pupils for their efforts. Check out the Artsmark website for more information. You can also browse case studies from current Artsmark schools.

A review of the government's child protection reforms arising from the recommendations of Victoria Climbié enquiry and giving rise to the ‘Every Child Matters&' agenda has found that senior managers of children&';s services may be lacking in direct experience of child protection from a social work perspective, due to their background being in education in the majority of case.

Educational Research and Policy Review

Educational Research and Policy Review

This paper, presented at BERA 2009, considers the impact that educational research has on policy, largely by reviewing relevant literature and by evaluating the impact that three very different NFER research projects (TIMSS, Gifted and Talented Evaluation, and National Monitoring Surveys) have had on policy.
