I have created 3 SPAG booklets in Red - Amber - Green.
These booklets target KS2/KS3/KS4 abilities.
This booklet is my Amber - KS3 level booklet.
My Red booklet (KS2/KS3 level) is very much back to basics.
This 29 page printable booklet covers common incorrect spellings, singular and plural words, homophones, writing in different tenses, capital letter tests and activities, it’s vs it is, your and you’re, their/there/they’re, too/too. This booklet focuses on slightly more ambitious puncutation than the red booklet such as colons, semi colons and brackets. It again tests on adjectives, nouns, verbs and adverbs.

Complete Punctuation and SPaG scheme of work for Key Stage 3 and GCSE. It’s time to win the battle against poor grammar and punctuation once and for all!
Complete unit of work which will allow your students to master advanced punctuation as well as engage with a range of exciting creative writing tasks. If you are anything like me, explicit teaching/reminding of how to properly apply punctuation is ESSENTIAL for all ability ranges, especially with the new specification GCSE placing so much emphasis on AO6.
These lessons are certainly geared more towards KS3 and KS4 students. Powerpoints are light hearted and fun, with plenty of images/colour and silly jokes to keep your students engaged and entertained. I’ve found these lessons serve as an excellent ‘crash course’ in punctuation either at the beginning of the academic year or in the run up to the GCSE exams. Below is a list of contents:
Commas (£2 if purchased on its own) -
Commas powerpoint lessons
Commas in a list worksheet
Commas in a complex sentences worksheet
Colons (£2 if purchased on its own) -
Colon powerpoint lessons
Mastering colons worksheet
Semi-Colons (£2 if purchased on its own)-
Semi-colon lesson powerpoints
Semi-colon worksheets (x2)
Semi-colon writing success criteria worksheet
Speech- (£2 if purchased on its own)
Speech powerpoint lessons
Speech worksheet
Speech mixed practice worksheet
Writing success criteria worksheet
Editing and proof reading - (£3 if purchased on its own)
Editing and proof reading mini scheme powerpoint (nearly 50 slides)
Editing and proof reading worksheets (£2 if purchased separately)
A wide range of proof reading worksheets that you can use to consolidate and improve your student’s SPaG and proof reading abilities after you have finished the unit of work.
This unit would suit a range of abilities as there is lots of scope for stretch and challenge, with ambitious success criteria and extension tasks built in throughout. Scaffolding and differentiation options are built in where appropriate.
Fully resourced and ready to roll, minimal adaptation or tweaking required.
This is obviously a SPaG/Punctuation scheme of work, but it is equally focused on creative/descriptive writing too. Much of the content is therefore ideal for teaching general creative writing skills or preparing for the fiction writing task on the new specification (9-1) GCSE English Language exam.

The activities are perfect for group work and prepare your class for SATs in a more interactive way.
The slideshow can be used for fillers, starters or plenaries.

The topics included are:
Brackets
Hyphens
Prefixes
Root words
The subjunctive
Prepositions
Pronouns
Tenses
Adverbs

SPAG Master is a game I use with Year 6 in the last few weeks before the SATs.
You know how it feels - when you’ve done past paper after past paper and you still need to work on retrieval but you need some ENERGY!
This is a quiz which involves partner work, team names and unlimited points and my children LOVE it.
Covering all of the Punctuation and Grammar question areas from Paper 1 in a quiz format.
Children work in pairs for this quiz.
For each section (PPT slide) each child will be given 2 to 3 minutes (your discretion) to answer the questions independently on their own piece of paper.
The next 2 minutes will be sharing and discussing answers with their partner.
Before sharing, they will need to decide upon a final answer as a team.
This is great for peer work, talking through HOW they came to their answer.
Points are decided by the teacher: correct answers; superb explanations; good behaviour; staying focused
I also deduct points to maintain behaviour management: shouting out, arguing etc. I find that the children learn very quickly that it’s all a bit of fun in the midst of all their revision and behave well beyond the first couple of deductions!
Having ultimate power over the points also ensures that you can award points to children with low self esteem who need the boost.
There are over 20 colourful question slides, each containing at least 4 SPAG questions. This quiz can easily be broken down into sections, over several sessions .
I show this as a PPT presentation and everyone looks at the whiteboard but I have also included a PDF in case you need to print out questions.
Another PPT and PDF contains the answers which I use as a class so I can see what everyone is getting out of it, what my areas of need are, giving out points and also to keep up the energy.
However, this could also be used for self marking.
I really hope you and your class enjoy this resource as much as we do!
The first worksheet focuses on punctuation. The children identify the name of each punctuation mark and then link it up to its purpose. The second worksheet focuses on different types of words: adjectives, nouns, pronouns, verbs and adverbs. They link the type of word to its purpose and then identify words that are each of the types.
10 differentiated worksheets to practise the Year 3 punctuation objectives:
using apostrophes for possession
using capital letters
using inverted commas
using punctuation at the end of a sentence.

The Key Stage 2 English grammar, punctuation and spelling test paper frequently features questions linked to prefixes and suffixes. This PPT based lesson will help Year 6 students revise this area. Christmas Literacy fun! These 6 December no prep KS2 Editing / Proofreading Literacy puzzles worksheets (and full solutions) are ideal for the busy end of term. Use for starters, main lesson tasks or early finisher activities to practise a range of spelling, punctuation and grammar during December. 3 puzzles were originally designed for Year 6 and 5 (P7 and P6) and 3 simpler ones for Year 3 and 4 (P4 and P5). Both sets could be used in the same class for differentiation if required. They could also be used for revision in early KS3. Versions are included with and without a festive background picture. All sentences are Christmas-themed.
Now available in a good value Christmas Puzzle BUNDLE with this festive mental maths puzzle pack: Christmas Mental Maths Puzzles
An engaging alternative to worksheets, these festive puzzles make ideal starter, early finisher, revision or filler tasks for this special time of year. Similar to codebreaker puzzles, a Christmas-related word is revealed after completing the editing work. Each puzzle contains 20 lines of text (or 15 in the simpler ones). Pupils circle any mistakes they spot. If there are 3 or more mistakes in a single line, they highlight the corresponding letter in the grid at the bottom of the page. At the end they rearrange the highlighted letters to reveal the Christmas word. Puzzles can be completed individually or in pairs / groups, with pupils supporting each other and pooling their editing / proofreading skills.
Pupils often forget or avoid re-reading their own work to check for errors so it is great to get them carefully checking in these puzzles. Spotting common spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors may help them remember to check their own work and help them avoid errors themselves.
Some of the aspects of SPaG included: common spelling errors, full stops, capital letters, question marks, commas, colons, speech marks, proper nouns, missing words, repeated words, tenses, subordinate clauses and embedded clauses. (Not all concepts feature in the 3 simpler puzzles (Puzzles 4-6).
