Bubble Writing - Handwriting Scaffold UKS2

(9)
Bubble writing - cursive handwriting scaffold Like many primary school teachers I have tried a variety of handwriting schemes with varying degrees of success. Having thought through many common problems with handwriting I have developed a simple scaffold that places a bubble either side of the line to support letter formation. This simple scaffold provides a guide to consistently form cursive letters and ensure each letter is uniform in both height and width. Children are able to leave equal spaces between words and see clearly whether or not there is enough space at the end of each line for the next word they intend to write. There has been a huge impact within my class in a very short space of time and I hope you will see similar benefits within your own setting. Included is a PowerPoint presentation including words from the Year 5/6 spelling list that can be printed as a handwriting pack for children to work through. Blank slides enable you to add words to suit your needs and finally 2 different sized PDF scaffolds that children can use to write on (If photocopied the bubbles will disappear to leave the writing that has been completed.)

Harmful Gender Stereotypes in Society

(1)
Positive Male Role Models - Addressing Harmful Influences and Gender Stereotypes. In this lesson, students will explore the positive qualities and characteristics to consider when choosing a role model to emulate or be influenced by. Created to counter the harmful views propagated by online influencers such as Andrew Tate, this lesson empowers children to become critical consumers of information, rather than accepting online hearsay as fact. Intended as a gentle precursor to secondary school topics of misogyny and toxic masculinity, this lesson reminds students of their previous learning on gender stereotypes and applies this knowledge to new scenarios related to harmful gender stereotypes. While this lesson does not explicitly name Andrew Tate, we will apply our critical thinking skills to an age-appropriate selection of Tate’s quotes without crediting him as the influencer (please note that we have been careful to select examples that include no sexual references or violence). This lesson is suitable for students in UKS2 (Year 6) or possibly LKS3 students in Year 7. Who are EC Resources? EC Resources are a group of teachers who work together to create easy to use, high quality and editable lessons and units of work. We have created lessons for The Bank of England, The British Legion, The Children’s Commissioner, MACS Charity, Tes, LikeToBe Careers, the Criminal Cases Review Commission (UK Gov) and have also completed PSHE and Citizenship commissions for schools across the UK. The lessons go into a lot of depth and take learners on a journey that builds up their understanding step by step. Editable diagrams and animations which help aid understanding. Multiple questions in different question styles and difficulties - no need for worksheets. Most “chunked” explanation sections include a set of “learning check quick questions” followed by a set of in-depth questions on the learning from that “chunk” of the lesson. Year 6 Arithmetic One-Page Tests x 12

(1)
Year 6 Arithmetic Tests with answers, written to fit on one A4 page. Based on KS2 SATs Arithmetic Papers. I use these tests as revision for my Year 6 class. After much searching, I couldn’t find any Arithmetic practice tests that fit onto one page (to save on photocopying!), so I decided to make some. Each test fits on to one page and comes with the answers. They are all based on KS2 SATs Arithmetic Test questions. The tests download in both PDF and editable Word formats. There is also a front cover, which I use when putting all the tests into a booklet, so my class can keep track of their scores improving. I hope you find them useful and it saves the trees/you some photocopying time!

New Year reflections and goals activity 2024 new year's resolutions - 3 templates

(0)
Updated for New Year 2024 Happy new year! Welcome 2024 by encouraging your class to reflect on the past year, and decide on goals or resolutions for the new year. This foldable activity is a great way to start January with positivity and a good mindset (and is a fun alternative to a worksheet). This resource contains the following: A PDF with 3 similar templates, with identical prompts. One template has a straight cutting edge. A PowerPoint file with 3 blank templates to write your own prompts for pupils. These can then be printed for students to complete and fold. A Google Slides link (in the PDF) with 3 blank templates to write your own prompts for pupils. As above, this can then be printed for students to use. A picture to help with folding The prompts on the pre-written template are: -My best memory of 2023 -My proudest moment of 2023 -Someone who made me smile in 2023 -This year, I’d like to learn more about… -My 2024 goal at home is… -My 2024 goal at school is… -The month I’m most looking forward to in 2024 -Something I can do for others in 2024 is… Children colour their template, write/draw their responses in the blank spaces, cut, and fold. 32 lessons - 'The Boy at the Back of the Class' by Onjali Rauf - Year 4/5/6 - English planning

(23)
32 lessons - ‘The Boy at the Back of the Class’ by Onjali Rauf - Year 4/5/6 - English planning A whole term’s English planning linked to the book ‘The Boy at the Back of the Class’ (Winner of the Blue Peter Best Story Award 2019) by Onjali Rauf. Since its release, this book has been a classroom favourite, covering a topic that is never far from the news. Onjali Rauf writes about the topic of migration and refugees fantastically. I’ve taught this scheme three times now to different classes, and each time the children have all cheered at the end of the book (always a good sign that they’ve enjoyed it!) There are 32 lessons in total, all with accompanying SMART Notebook screens, task sheets and header sheets. To aid teaching each lesson, there are a total of 162 SMART Notebook screens (in one file) and each lesson is clearly marked along with which lesson each chapter should be read to aid and link to the learning. (Update - I personally use SMART Notebook files in my own lessons. In response to many requests, I have converted the SMART Notebook screens to Powerpoint, so there is also a Powerpoint presentation included for the teaching sequence for those unable to use SMART Notebook. However, please note that while the SMART Notebook screens can be edited, the Powerpoint screens can not be edited as they are screen snips from the SMART Notebook file.) This teaching sequence and planning will require the children to complete the following tasks over the 32 lessons: writing a recount writing a persuasive letter answering SATs style comprehension questions writing a narrative descriptive writing drama session writing an information text writing a newspaper report I have also included some examples of work for some lessons in the planning. This topic will also educate and inform the children of a very current real problem that others in the world face - the plight of the refugee. Using this book will expand their understanding of the world and help them to empathise and appreciate what some of the other children in school may have gone through. Even if you don’t need this scheme of work, I would highly recommend the book to share with the class. This resource has received over 20 five-star reviews from teachers who have purchased it. Some of the comments include: We have used this scheme for 2 years it is suitable for high, middle and low ability. It provides the cross curricular style that we wanted for year 7. Worth every penny. (united77) The best resource I have ever downloaded, this made my life so much easier. (AJ40) Absolutely love this. Brilliant scheme of work to go with an excellent book. (ajtranter) Thank you ! These resources are amazing. (teach_explore) Wonderful purchase. All lessons and clearly explained and the appropriate resources are all numbered which makes it super easy to follow. (torylindsay96)
