This is a beautifully touching story about a young boy who wants to take his grandma to the beach where she grew up one last time to see her turtles before she goes blind, but when they get there the beach is full of rubbish. He sees how upset his grandma is so wants to do something about it. There are some twists and turns and surprises for the reader. This books can be used for 6 years old right up to 11 year olds. This resource includes: The themes found in the book A table of quality vocabulary found in the book And 22 teaching ideas with weblinks to help. All of this is also found on the website wwwkreativefutures.co.uk. The books is an excellent resource and the ideas are well-worth using. This book teaches pupils to learn through stories by: a) Tackling topical environmental issues b) Offering quality discussions through strong themes c) Introducing aspirational language d) Demonstrating grammar and sentence structure in line with National Curriculum expectations. There are three other eco-adventure books (Lost LIves, George the Fraud and the Dragon and What a Load of Rubbish).

The book is about a young girl, Megan, who finds a magic atlas which transports her to another world. Here she meets the Manyak tribe and finds out why their land is being destroyed and why the orangutans are under threat of extinction. She learns that she can talk to animals and how to use her newly discovered magical powers to take revenge. She makes friends in unlikely places and experiences a new life which she doesn’t want to leave. The book highlights the environmental issues in Borneo where vast swathes of land are being deforested and then planted with palm oil. This books can be used for 8 years old right up to 12 year olds. The resource includes: Detailed planning covering 6 genres: diary, discussion, instructions, book review, information and poetry.
