German Prepositions Wall Chart and Handout

(0)
This is a super handy chart (I have it as a poster in my room and also hand out a card stock copy to students) I made to help students remember and correctly use case after prepositions. It includes their definitions and usages in the chart as well. The chart is a Venn Diagram of Dative, Two-Way (Wechsel) and Accusative Prepositions. In the corners of the chart I have article change reminders and underneath I remind them of when to use the dative or accusation of the Two-way preps. Students have actually come back to me from prior years to request another copy because they found it so useful! Format: Power Point so you can modify if you like

I use this graphically appealing presentation to kick off my unit on the environment (Die Umwelt) in my German 4 class. Presentation is entirely auf Deutsch except of course for the vocabulary list. This presentation engages student immediately in the unit and gets them using German right away! Start out with a short vocab list then 7 reflective higher level questions and a Post-It Note activity followed by a group summary project and presentation. This lesson will take about 1 hour for large class and about 45 minutes for a smaller one. The students really get into the unit with this lesson!

Comparatives and Superlatives Presentation Project- German

Die Steigerungsformen This is a Power Point Presentation that I use during Deutsch Aktuell Level 2 Kapitel 1A to get students actively using comparatives and superlatives in German 2. First I explain the basics of forming the comparative and superlative, then I do this project. The slides walk students through using the word deise/r/s to describe objects of all three genders. The notes wrap up as an example for the project they make using a large sheet of paper, markers and with a partner. They make a poster comparing things from each gender. Then I have students present them to the class, if there is time I have them vote on their favorites. There is a picture of a sample project in the power point for students as well.

Teach your students the basic history and facts about the German holiday celebration Oktoberfest. The world's largest party, that is celebrated now world wide! This is a video guide that is created to go along with a 5 minute YouTube animated video. I have my students watch the video once, then handout the video guide for them to discuss and finally I have them watch them a second time. Total it takes about 20 minutes. !!!! There is a swear word in one of the animations! I tell my students about it ahead of time and tell them that we are going to ignore it. It hasn't been a problem for me, but I teach HS. Format: PDF

This is a Power Point presentation that I like to use to kick off teaching the Pluperfect in upper level German classes. The presentation is about 8 slides long and would take about 1 hour or slightly longer to go through. The slide show starts off with a narrative past tense review activity, which is circled back to at the end of the slide show. There is a basic explanation of the tense, some examples, some practice sentences and finally the wrap-up group activity followed by a final group presentation.

Hamburg Sehenswürdigkeiten - Sights - German 3-5 Research Project

I use this set of 14 reading research handouts when I cover Hamburg. I’ve included the scans of the 14 free articles I found online and a research guide for each one. The guides include a word cloud which I assign the students (with a partner or small group) to do before I hand out the articles. I’ve found they focus better this way! Then I hand out the articles and ask them to highlight that new vocab in their articles and answer the rest of the questions in their guides. The final step is to have students plan a sales pitch for their site. Then they break up their groups around the room. Some group members stay to talk about their sight to other students who rotate around about every 3 minutes. Then the rotating students man their sights and the other students rotate. As opposed to a group presentation to the class more students are able to speak at a time and they keep reviewing and discussing the same topic, so it helps them maintain their vocabulary. Pdf articles and handout pages and Word handout pages as well.

Berlin Travel Agent Research and Speaking German Project

This assignment is designed as a research project that encourages students to research authentic websites for information and uses web 2.0 resources to complete the presentation portion of their project. I have the students complete the assignment as a Google Document, but it could also be done as an in-class project or used in a online German class. If done in class this project would take about 3- 50 minute class periods. The students are travel agents in the city of Berlin and they need to access the web ( or have access to print outs of the web info) to complete 4 activities: 1. Research 6 sites in the city of Berlin 2. Use googlemaps.de to give directions to lost tourists 3. Record themselves giving the directions using the online free recorder Vocaroo.com 4. Record themselves giving a sales pitch to tourists and why they should visit Berlin

Song Lyrics Analysis Worksheet

Worksheet in English. The link to the monthly top 10 hits in German from Germany is listed in the directions and provided by the Goethe Institute. So, you don't have to list hunt or create playlists! Just assign this once a month! I usually do it in the middle of the month to make sure the list has been updated ;) My students love having the ability to choose the songs they want to listen to. Students can learn a lot from listening to authentic songs! Songs also tie to their emotions and keep them interested in learning the language. This sheet I generally assign as homework or schedule in the computer lab. I encourage kids to check out other songs by artists they like and follow up with questions like: What did you download? What videos did you like? Did you subscribe to anyone?
