This resource includes a lesson plan and prompt sheets which encourage students to discuss the theme of power through creative writing.
Although a creative writing session all work develops and understanding of context, and ability to identify and explain the effect of literary techniques to aid further teaching.
We have used this session in workshops for ages 11-16, differentiating the level of discussion between the age groups, and is particularly effective for engaging pupils (primarily boys), who are disengaged from more traditional lessons.
The exercises used are aimed to be low focus, the majority of the work is done as a team – therefore those less confident still feel they have created something and contributed, but the emphasis is on collaboration.
This resource is ideal for introducing a variety of texts or topics, from poetry anthology work, to Macbeth, Of Mice and Men or other set texts.
