Narnia - assessment and additional activities to support CONTEXT understanding at KS3

(0)
Preparing KS3 students to understand context can be challenging. This assessment is designed to test their understanding of language with a scaffolded sheet to support those who may need support to identify language techniques used. The additional resources support individual lessons to understand contextual factors such as: the reason for the inclusion of turkish delight in the story; how the Greek myths can link to the story (Icarus) and how C.S Lewis references Eden in the story.

KS3 structure skills - comparing opening and ending Black Beauty

This resource is designed to accompany the reading of Black Beauty by Anna Sewell. It would work well to read the opening chapter in class with Y7/8, then have them read the remainder as homework over a holiday. Then reading the opening and closing chapter together, enables teachers to discuss some of the structural terms that will be needed for AQA 8700/1 Q3 at GCSE. The activity is designed so students can create a paragraph of analysis as well as complete DIRT activities and retry the activity after looking at model answers.
