"of the week" Certificates

I wanted to some certificates that did more than reward children for good work or good behaviour and the “of the week” certificates were born! These certificates rewards values such as teamwork and friendliness as well as other learning qualities such as creativity, mathematical thinking and exploration. Each certificate have a quote relating to the award at the bottom of the page Certificates included in this resource: Mathematician Friend Team Player Explorer Musician Inventor Artist Inventor Scientist Author Reader Star I am using these in my classroom alongside Wholehearted School Counselling’s “I am an … when” resource to let children know what it means to have these qualities and will be giving them out during our weekly Friday afternoons to take home. To use this resource, simply print either full size or 2 to a page (depending on your preference), add the child’s name and comment, sign underneath the ‘Keep up the good work’ caption and hand out! The fonts SHOULD be embedded but if they aren’t the headings are KG Blank Space and the main text is KG First Time in Forever

Debit Cards to use with Class Dojo Encourage responsibility by encouraging your class to keep track of their dojo points. Fab to use if you use dojo points as currency and your class can use them to buy rewards and prizes. Two versions - rounded rectangle and rectangle to save your wrists when cutting! I recommend printing on card and laminating for long term use each year!

Year 1 National Curriculum Objectives

In my classroom, I plan to have a learning focus wall with key vocabulary, exemplar work and… the national curriculum objective. I feel it’s important know that we’re sitting for 20 minutes a day practicing how to join the letters ay because we have to. With the curriculum objective on the wall for them to see, the children know what we’re working towards and are able to assess their progress. These curriculum objectives are: split into the different ‘topics’ stated in the national curriculum and colour coded rewritten in kid speak where needed but otherwise use the wording from the curriculum Landscape A4 to allow you to easily display them on your wall. This download includes the English, Maths and Science Curriculum Aims for Year 1 in a PDF and just need printing and laminating ready to display! Please note, I am working on a low colour and black and white version as well as editable versions to change the wording to suit you.

The Bad Seed - Reputation Lesson

Looking for an activity for the first week of school? This is a lesson PPT, Lesson plan and resources I used for a PSHE lesson I did for an interview (I got the job!) The lesson was on the book The Bad Seed and focuses on reputation. I use this for transition day for any children who may have been label as ‘the bad kid’ in their current year group to let them know that their year with me is an opportunity for a fresh start. In this download, you will find the lesson PowerPoint I used as well as the resources I created to accompany it. As the children worked on a resource I amended from a product purchased from Teachers Pay Teachers, that resources has been linked on the first page of the RESOURCES file as well as links to the book or an read aloud on Youtube. This resources was used with a Year 3 class but it easily adaptable for any year group.
Shape Spotting

Shape Spotting

Here’s my Shape Spotting worksheet for EYFS. This download includes 4 worksheets that ask children to either color in specific shapes or count how many shapes that can see. The objectives of this sheet is to encourage children to recognise shapes by their characteristics rather than what they know. i.e. this shape has no corners so it’s a circle. It’s useful as the shapes are in different rotations, translations and sizes so encourages children to really think about characteristics. Differentiation is in the form of the two different sheets: LA can be encouraged to focus on improving their knowledge of shapes characteristics with the coloring sheet whereas MA and HA can incorporate number skills with the counting sheet. Furthermore, one set of sheets use ‘basic’ shapes such as square, rectangle, cirlce and the other has diamonds, hexagons etc. Links to: Shape, Space and Measure Counting Numbers
Writing the Alphabet

Writing the Alphabet

Here’s my Writing the Alphabet worksheet for EYFS and the very first product I created! This sheet focuses on letter formation and asks children trace the letter 5 times then to represent the letters of the alphabet in 9 different ways: Write It! - Simply write the letter Trace It! Dot It! - to write the letters in dots Colour It! - use colouring pens/ pencils to write the letter Cross It! - to write the letter in small crosses Stamp It! - to stamp the letter in the space Stick It! - to stick in the letter (foam letters, cut out letters) Make It! - to make the letter out of string, wool, match sticks Reveal It! - to write the letter in white crayon then reveal it in pen This is useful as it allows children to become familiar with the formation of the letter through repetition. Different means of support can be added to differentiate the activities such as allowing HA students to search for the correcrt letter stamp whilst LA students have the stamp provided.

Exploring Numbers Around Us

Here’s my Exploring Numbers Around Us worksheet. This is a simple counting activity that encouraged children to think about numbers in real world context such as counting up children in the class of the numbers that are important to them. There are two worksheets included: Numbers in ME! which encourages children to think about the numbers that are special to them such as their age or their birthday Numbers in my Classroom! which encourages children to think about the numbers in their classroom such as the number of children with brown hair. This product was one of my first and I’m super happy with how it turned out. I hope to update it to include other representations of numbers as ten frames aren’t often used in the UK.

Understanding Numbers 1 - 10

Here’s a worksheet for EYFS to help children practice forming numbers in numeral and written form. This sheet asks children to read a numeral form, trace and write the written form and finally represent the number either in a drawing or on a ten frame. The sheet uses a box font to encourage children to think about tall, small and hanging letters. There are two different forms of differentiation: The Draw It! worksheet for LA students who can draw their representation The Ten Frame It! worksheet for MA and HA students who can represent numbers on a ten frame This worksheet can be used with manipulatives to increase support given. Dice It!, Domino It! and Numicon It! to be added at a later date.
