"Run, run, as fast as you can
You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man!"
This mini-unit provides a resource for creating a Gingerbread Man book, including vocabulary, reading response, creative writing, journaling, etc. It includes a front cover, a page with primary lines, a blank page for various projects, two pages of creative and engaging teaching ideas for reading, math, and art, and a print-and-assemble movable, hinged Gingerbread Man. Extended teaching ideas are included, but here are a few samples for the blank page: use as a template for art projects (students can design their own Gingerbread Men), for bulletin board displays, for word walls or math flash cards, for writing exercises and mini books, or for story sequencing. For this last activity, assign one stanza of the Gingerbread Man story to each student group or pair. They can read the stanza and summarize it on their Gingerbread Man template. When all groups have finished, organize your Gingerbread Man cards into the correct story sequence. Use a hole punch to punch holes into the ends of the arms, and string them together with colorful yarn for a colorful bulletin board display of the story sequence.
