Treasure hunt at the Louvre (Paris)

Are you planning to visit Le Louvre with some students during a trip to Paris ? Why don’t you organise a treasure hunt to discover the wonderful secrets of this museum in a fun way ! This treasure hunt lasts approximately 60-90 minutes. It is aiming at KS3 and KS4 English speaking students who are learning French. Most of the questions are in English, only one is in French (but can be easily adapted if need be). The students have to find 10 artworks, picked among the most famous ones in the museum : the Venus de Milo, the caryatids statues and the sculpture of Artemis goddess of the hunt, known as the Diana of Versailles, the Seated Scribe, the ‘Regent’ Diamond, The Winged Victory of Samothrace, The Coronation of Napoleon, The Raft of the Medusa, Delacroix’s Liberty Leading the People, The Mona Lisa of course, and finally the monumental Wedding Feast at Cana. For each artwork, the students have to answer specific questions which will help them discover the historical context, and focus on some details of the sculptures and paintings. A short and accessible explanation retrieved from the Louvre Educational Resources official website will be given in English for each artwork. I am a French teacher in a British school and I created this treasure hunt for my Year 7, 8, 9, and 10 students as we stopped in Le Louvre during our Paris trip. If you spot any mistakes please leave a comment so I can modify the document. You will also be able to easily add, remove or edit it as it is in a Word format.
