GCSE History, The significance of Gorbachev and Reagan's changing attitudes

GCSE History 2016, Superpower Relations and the Cold War, 1941-91. Lesson begins with a keywords and chronology test. Students then take on the role of either the CIA or KGB and read an imaginary intercept of Gorbachev and Reagan speaking about their ideas. Students then answer success criteria questions to learn about the significance of Gorbachev and Reagan's ideas. There is also an example importance question and exemplar answer for students to discuss. The lesson finishes with a quick quiz about the ideas of Gorbachev and Reagan. Useful for the new GCSE History 2016 course, Superpower Relations and the Cold War 1941-91. This lesson would work well as part of unit 3: The end of the Cold War, 1970-91.

Focuses on the Reich Labour Service; attempts to solve unemployment; invisible employment and organisations like Strength Through Joy and Beauty of Labour. The main activity involves students writing a newspaper article about whether there was an economic miracle. There is a 'Who am I'? starter activity. There is also a inference practice question and an example answer as well as an example 12 mark question and example answer with a self/peer assessment sheet. The lesson ends with a quiz to check understanding.

There is a reading sheet covering different roles like women, hospitals, physicians, apothecaries, barber surgeons and public health in the medieval period. This lesson focuses on the long term reasons that helped Hitler become chancellor. There is a four page sources booklet and the main activity involves students analyzing and completing a table on the factors that helped Hitler become chancellor. There is also a practice exam style interpretations question (the final question in the exam) which students complete with success criteria and a self and peer assessment sheet. I have also included some other example exam style questions that students could do for homework. There is also an exemplar answer for the interpretations question. This lesson does not deal with the final stages whereby Hindenburg appointed Hitler chancellor as I do this in a separate lesson.
