A short speaking activity to practise the vocab for saying which school subjects you like/dislike and why. Students have to unjumble the sentences orally in pairs. Uses a variety of different opinion phrases and adjectives.
An aural sentence puzzle to introduce the topic of direct object pronouns. This activity allows you to introduce this grammar point through listening and reinforces the differences between French and English word order. Worksheet to practise Spanish verbs in preterite and imperfect using the Toy Story song Cambios extraños ‘strange things’ - if pupils have already had plenty of receptive practice with these tenses, you could do this as a conjugation practice exercise - pupils complete the conjugations and then listen to the song and check their answers. Or, you could use this during the receptive processing stage of practice - by this point, they are familiar with the endings and this provides an opportunity to practise them through listening, they listen, and using their knowledge of endings and phonics, write what they hear. A listening and reading comprehension in French to give students a very basic introduction to the French revolution based on a French YouTube video. Aimed at Year 11 roughly (the video is hard but there is plenty of scaffolding in the exercises) Activities include vocab building gap-fill, gapped translation, listening gap-fill, true or false statements, and comprehension with reordering of information. Answers included.

A worksheet with a sequence of activities to introduce and practise talking about pets and colours for beginners’ Spanish. Activities include a matching exercise, a vocab table to fill out, a listening gap-fill and a ‘bad translation’ exercise.

A set of 12 basic sentences with which to play a Conti sentence stealer game - see link below if you’re not familiar with the game. This is a reading aloud task can be played just after pupils have been made aware of the pronunciation differences between masculine and feminine adjective endings.
You could also later use the same sentences with your pupils to do translations on mini whiteboards, dictation sentences on mini whiteboards, or a quiz quiz trade game.

After learning about el día de los muertos / day of the dead, beginners can learn how to describe someone in the past so they can write a simple ‘tribute’ to someone that has passed, this can be turned into a seasonal display and pupils can decorate their tribute with marigolds or other flowers, photos or drawings. Worksheets include:

Sentence builder for writing a tribute - modelled answers in grid to help. This can be used to do dictations, aural translations etc. using mini-whiteboards and having pupils use the sentence builder.

Basic practice of describing people in Spanish - unjumble the sentences and complete the gap-fill using the options. Answers included. Covers topics of describing age and nationality, hair, eyes, weight and some personality.
Quick reading comprehension task to consolidate vocab on describing family members. Also draws attention to adjectives and verbs. You could extend the activity by asking pupils to translate the boxes orally into English, or to rewrite each box changing TWO details in Spanish for each person.
Spanish to English translations short activity to consolidate vocab on describing people with ser. Answers included. This activity could be done as a competition/quiz in pairs or as a ‘one pen one dice’ activity (Google it! Great game) After you’ve corrected them, you could practise listening by asking pupils to turn the sheet over, then you read out one of the sentences from the sheet in Spanish, and on the back or on a miniwhiteboard, pupils translate it into English - good listening practice.
A big quiz of 30 questions on the Spanish-speaking world - can be used for beginners, done aurally in class or as a research task. Answers are included in the document. Great for starting off beginners in Spanish to get them interested in Hispanic world, or as an end-of-term fun activity!
